Very sad to hear Ken Dodd has left us today. One of the greats of comedy and such a humble man.

Enjoy a Jam Butty with me Da Ken

I was never a fan but he was a very talented man. TBH I thought he had died years ago as you never heard of him but he had a good innings in the end
It’s funny the day we lose him, another comedian is discovered.... have the seen the Ad for the ADV.1 wheels :D

I think he is one of those comedians who at the time you didn't realise how good he was, compared to the ones doing the rounds at the moment he was 5*.

travelled behind him on a plane from Amsterdam a couple of years ago. he was a shadow of a human being. couldn't fasten his belt, couldn't get his coat off or order a drink. Polite and quiet but totally disorganised. On the bus to the car park he was again sat in front of us when a fellow traveller spoke to him. It was as if something inside him switched on. he instantly went into comedian mode and very soon had the whole bus in stitches. He was articulate, engaging and hilarious.

a gifted individual who will be missed my many.
now I'm about to have more time I've suddenly got less toys to play with!

He was certainly a one-off, I remember my mum going to see him in a club in Liverpool and the first thing he asked was do you want it blue or clean? apparently the majority of the audience wanted it clean and he proceeded to entertain, bringing the house down with clean jokes for over 3 hours.

My wife and I saw Ken Dodd "live" about 30 years ago and purposely went to see him again 3 years ago so that we could have a lasting memory of him. His performance started at 7:30, then we had a half-hour intermission at around 10:30 and we left the theatre at around 1am. Although he was 87, he was just a non-stop joke machine, who didn't fluff a line. He was giving another performance over 100miles away the next evening (same day we left the theatre). We've seen almost all the current crop of "known" comedians perform live and Doddy deserves his status as a genuine comedy genius and performer and he set a standard all other comedians must aspire to reach.

When he was asked about his singing:
Q: "How was your voice trained?"
Doddy: "On newspaper".

I think that a s a kid growing up in the 60s and 70s Doddy was the comic your parents laughed at and as such you didn't. Only in the last ten years or so have I realised what an astute reader of people he was; and to stay in the same house - how many so called stars lock themselves away. For years I didn't even realise that Knotty Ash was a real place and wasn't made up!

I remember the fuss about the tax he owed - listening to reports today I reckon he didn't even think about the money it was all about making people laugh.

Regarding his trial for tax evasion at Liverpool Crown Court, there wasn't a cat in hells chance of him being found guilty by a jury of his peers - everyone in Liverpool loved him. Ironically, the trial was a complete waste of tax payers money - Doddy VS HM Revenue and Customs, he was always going to walk.

Sad news indeed.

I remember him regularly being on TV when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s - his performances always seemed anarchic, but I'm sure he had it all carefully planned. Comic genius!
