Teng ratchet spanners..

Post by Ducklakeview » Mon Feb 19, 2018 3:43 pm

Anyone got these?

Have seen Ed China using them, and quite like the fact that not only is the ratchet head offset, it's also reversible via a lever, instead of having to turn the spanner around..

Thought I'd ask, in case anyone has them..

These ones..

Halfords do them with an adjustable neck, I’ve had a set for years, really good quality, wouldn’t be without them.

I already have a few sets of the Halfords ones John in both fixed head and flexible ratchet, yes they are good, especially for the price with a trade card - BUT I like the fact that the Teng allow you to change direction with the lever, and the 13 degree offset improves access over the fixed head, without going to the bulkier flex headed ones. For some jobs, the lower profile tool makes all the difference.

As it has the all important 16 & 18mm in there.

Have seen set for £165 delivered, which is cheap compared to my Snap On stuff..

Have to be honest I haven’t seen those with the lever Mike, I’ve not bought any mechanics tools for years. Had my head stuck in builders gear instead.

A set of those will be winging their way over forthwith. Just shows I need to get back up to speed with tools.

Haven't bought a set of these but I did buy a large set of Teng swan neck ring spanners - I needed a 32mm and a set of 7mm - 32mm with a few 'odds and evens' at the end of each spanner was only a few quid dearer from Teng than one 32mm spanner from some other manufactures.

It really only had to do one critical job so I thought 'what the hell' I'll give the full set a try. I was pleasantly surprised  I was expecting a rough forged/granulated finish with imperfections but the surface was finished well and the chroming is holding up - no flaking like you get on the jaws of cheap stuff. At the price and off flebay I expected far worse.

Only thing that would concern me is that the ratchet lever is going to be the weak link but I suppose you have to remember you don't put a scaffold pole on that type of spanner to get extra 'thrutch' - you have to change the spanner first :)

£165 is relatively cheap for decent spanners... £16.50 each for those isn't bad at all IMO - Snap On flex head ratchet spanners range from about £30 for a 10mm, upto £45 for a 19mm, EACH.. I'd expect an equiv sized set from them to be close to £350 plus the vat.

Buy decent one's and they last a lifetime. I have sockets and spanners that I bought from Snap On when I was 17 and serving my time. I've had them 32 years and they are still like new, even after being used regularly. I think I've had the 10mm deep 3/8" one replaced a couple of times under warranty due to wear, and one 17mm combi spanner that I was using a length of scaffold on with a stubborn nut - Again replaced under warranty.

Hi Mike
Amongst all my tools I've got several of these Teng ratchet spanners and without a doubt they get used the most. Superb spanners. They've been faultless. Had them maybe 9 or 10 years now. Would definitely buy a full set when my others eventually die.

Them's the one's - Do they have a slight angle on the ratchet head?

So you'd recommend?

Would definitely recommend Mike. I've got a fair bit of Snap On like you but tbh these are just as good but maybe just not as sexy looking !
The angle on the ratchet end is maybe only 15/20deg but it's enough to stop your knuckles from getting skinned if working on a flush nut or bolt. The little lever rocks about its centre but is robust enough...I've not broken one !
