Crazy money xr3i

I loved them! I was in the motor trade in the late eighties and they sold really well, couldn't get enough of them! Plus, they kept the workshop busy (as did most Fords at the time). They kept my mortgage paid when it was 15%.

I had a white Astra GTE 16v which I loved to bits (that digi dash 😎). 150bhp seemed like a lot back then.

My only hot hatch was same as above - an Astra GTE 16v. Loved the digital dash and the 150 bhp. In a straight line it felt quick, forget about cornering though. Here it is:

I remember coming home from the gym one night in the XR, I was alone and noticed headlights in the the rear view mirror, quite a way back. I put my foot down to keep well ahead and was shocked how quickly the following car caught me. As it passed, I was really peeved to see a 1.9 Pug 205 GTi, 4 up...so much quicker :|

Always liked them John, My sister in law had a new one and the power was awesome, the torque steer was frighting though :)

I only drove a 1.6 Fred, funnily enough when I had an XR3i, it was like driving the M after a 2.0 Zed, bloody swift even in 1.6 guise. The panels were wafer thin though, I wouldn’t like my chances in an accident in one.
