Light fitting advice needed.

Post by ben g » Sun Feb 04, 2018 9:51 pm

I've bought a new bathroom light to replace an old fitting in my ensuite.

The old ceiling light was earthed. The new light fitting doesn't have anywhere to put the earth wire.

It's a bathroom light, so does it need to be earthed?

This is the light fitting in question.

I'm not a complete novice, having replaced many light fittings before. I've just never replaced an earthed light fitting for one that doesn't seem to need earthing.

As above - New one will de double insulated, so an earth not required.

Oh right, so any double insulated light fitting doesn't need earthing? You learn something new everyday   cheers DLV!

I assume it's safe to put the earth wire from the lighting circuit into a seperate terminal block and tape it up?

Yes m8, in fact any double insulated appliance. Just a single choc block will do. I'd give it a wrap with insulating tape myself, og casble tie it out of the way.
