What Impact Sockets will i need?
Hi Guys,
I am looking on some advice on which impact sockets I should be looking to get for my impact driver.
I own an E46 M3, Golf MK5 & a Clio 172 Cup and I plan on using it on all of these cars for changing wheels and other odd jobs.
Which are the standard sizes/kits I should be looking to get.
Any advice would be great, I have loads of normal sockets but I don't want to ruin them with the impact driver.
I have been looking at this kit but not sure it has all the sizes required for most jobs.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-38369-H ... socket+set
Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Ash

that kit should do
I've also got -;
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bergen-Piece-A ... NFCBEB0CEK
set simply because of the "plastic" jacket around the socket so you don't bash your alloys around - very easy to chip them when removing wheel nuts.

I'd get a torque stick for the wheels to save you over tightening.

Get a set with an 18mm socket (seems to be a common BMW size). Imperial sockets are handy for hammering on anything that gets rounded off...

So far I have ordered these bits (not from amazon as I got cheaper elsewhere)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clarke-PRO184- ... ct+sockets
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-AK5613M ... act+socket
That will hopefully do for wheels and the normal bits and bobs and any additional bits I need ill buy as and when I think.
Not sure if extensions will be handy or not so I haven't got any of those yet.

I only suggested it as you mentioned using the impact wrench for your wheels. If you're going to use a Torque wrench to do the wheels then you've no need.
Lots of people on here have complained about Tyre shops over tightening using guns. This resolves that issue.

I will only be using it to take the nuts off and then ill slowly put them back on and tighten with the torque wrench.Darkangelv2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2018 2:52 pmYep, i have a Sealey one, works fine.hopz121 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2018 2:44 pmNot sure if I trust these or not, think ill stick with the Torque wrench for now.Darkangelv2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2018 2:30 pmI'd get a torque stick for the wheels to save you over tightening.

I may give one of these sticks a try though, I think we use 120nm on the BMW''s

You'll need a 16mm and 18mm as they are common on the car. Personally I'd also get a short set, and would be looking at 3/8" rather than 1/2" drive as they are more comfortable in use, being more compact. But depends if your impact wrench is 1/2" or 3/8". Imo, quality 3/8"stuff is more than up to the job for car work. I only occasionally need 1/2" stuff for things like crank pulley bolts and the like.

I have a 1/2 Drive impact driver buddy which is why I went for the 1/2 Drive bits, going to be overkill and pretty heavy I think but hopefully it will be ok for what I need for nowDucklakeview wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2018 2:56 pmYou'll need a 16mm and 18mm as they are common on the car.
