Help for a computer illiterate please.......

Post by Dav the wheel nut » Thu Dec 28, 2017 12:13 pm

I turned on my laptop over Christmas to be greeted by a blue page asking me to choose my keyboard layout.
There are a number of language options to pick from but whatever I select the next page is 'troubleshoot' or 'turn off pc'
Whatever I do I just go back to the first page. I think it's got something to do with windows 10 update.
I'm now just stuck in a downward spiral of hopelessness. :headbang:
Any ideas would be appreciated but keep it simple cos that's what I am :(
Either that or it's off to the local computer repair shop

If you've had previous Windows updates and you think the latest update wasn't installed correctly then try restoring to a previous update which will restore the PC back to its previous state, for Windows 10 it look to be

This option takes your PC back to an earlier point in time, called a system restore point. Restore points are generated when you install a new app, driver, or Windows update, and when you create a restore point manually. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.

Select the Start button, type control panel and then choose it from the list of results.
Search Control Panel for Recovery.
Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

Worth a shot then restart,

Tim.

You can download windows 10 on another pc, create a bootable USB Drive. Put this into your computer, then try to repair windows, might need to change boot order. If it won't repair, then re install of windows needed

Sorry forgot to mention you might need to reboot in safe mode if you can't get into normal login, then try a restore,

If yout totally stuck you can do this, but you will lose all your data unless you've backed it up.
