Panic buying fuel again

Went to Devon on Friday and all the local stations had a line of cars waiting to fill up and causing bloody havoc on the roads.

I had half a tank so just went, got to Devon and no ques at any petrol station, filled up with no issues just bloody expensive

At least with the e86 there is no chance of her spreading it through fresh air, bring all “couped” up and so

They were warned about the loss of migrant labour - but that was dismissed as project fear!

Much as certain people would like to blame Brexit for everything, I'm not sure the entire driver shortage situation can be laid at the feet of Brexit as it's been EU-wide for some time now
In a recent article (linked below), The FT wrote: Europe has an estimated 400,000 shortage of lorry drivers, according to research group Transport Intelligence, with the workforce stretched by the pandemic-induced boom in online shopping
https://www.ft.com/content/0c4f9876-1ec ... bd2b58dde9

And a warning from BIFA in 2018 that an EU-wide driver shortage was looming

Wouldnt be anything to do with the disaster getting through and back through the border, no no its purely a covid thing... honest.

Also noticed yesterday that there were a lot of empty shelves and freezers in Tesco and Asda

So is Brexit the cause of the shortages in Poland and Germany?

Enjoy

"Some 14,000 EU HGV drivers left employment in the UK in the 12 months to June 2020, and only 600 have returned in the past year, according to analysis of Office for National Statistics labour force data commissioned by Logistics UK."

Brexit has made the problem worse and with the additional problems it introduced the already short supply are far less inclined to want to drive to and from here.

The Road Haulage Association are also attributing the shortage of drivers to Brexit .
