Garage Goals - inspiration needed
I’ve recently moved in to a new home but the garage needs a lot of work to make it a safe haven for my newly acquired Z4M Roadster.
Would be great to see what people have done to keep their pride and joy safe when not hopefully give me some ideas and goals. I’ve got loads of detailing gear and would be great to be able to do some of it whilst in the garage, could then consider getting a DA Polisher etc.
I’ve considered a few options including a carcoon, plastering it all out, studding it all and either lining with plasterboard, plywood or pvc cladding. Main issue is it’s a 17th century building with an open pantile roof so debris is something I’m trying to avoid even getting to the car so will need to create a false ceiling but better than what’s there already
This is the mess that is my garage, getting a skip in a week or so to empty it all out as most was left from previous owner and has remained a bit of a dumping ground.

Nothing there a couple of pounds of semtex can't sort!
Seriously though, I think your first step is empty it.
Get the roof water (and undergrowth) tight.
Seal and possibly paint the floor.
Paint the walls.
Think about what electrics you want and where. Can never have too many sockets.
While you're at it, get good lighting in there too. Strip lights can go on the tops of the walls if the roof isn't suitable.
Once all that is done, you have a perfect blank canvas. Take your time and plan it properly.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Skip is coming next week as other than jet wash and the bags of sand and natural hydraulic lime it was all left by previous owners. So all the make shift cabinets will be going along with their contents and probably the false roof, leaving me an empty shell (and a load of ivy that’s grown through the roof )
Luckily got somewhere else can keep the building stuff.
Problem is in my head I’m wanting to turn it into a Detailers Studio but don’t think my budget will stretch

To be honest we were just so glad to get in the place, nearly lost it a few times as it’s a listed building and solicitors were being a pain. The previous owners moved to Spain mid way though to get there before brexit so a complete nightmare, so much so I ended up having a heart attack before it went through, hence the delay in starting to get things sorted.Pondrew wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:48 pmYou can sue them for that. Leaving their junk is a breach of contract, strictly speaking. Or, alternatively, get them to pay for the skip. Just ask your solicitor to send them a letter, they will have their contact details.
Why is it deemed OK for you to pay to get rid of other people's rubbish on top of the hundreds of thousands to buy the place?
So for now taking the easy route and enjoying the new home and trying to avoid stress

Well at least you got the home you wanted, and looking on the positive side that garage is a good size.
It'll certainly be an interesting project!
I'm hoping to move soon and will have a garage once more so should be embarking on something similar, but I'll be aiming more for a man-cave than detailing studio.

Good luck prioritising a garage refurb over the list of other rooms to be done.

Here’s my humble car den. Not as fancy as some but it does the job.
It’s got an electric roller door, 4x 6 foot LED lights (much brighter than the picture shows), heavy duty racking from Costco. I’ve added 4 double sockets, ctec charger and carpet on the floor.
Then during the winter unless any maintenance planned I get the car as far as possible to the left and fit the cover and just leave it.

I’ve been considering keeping it simple and getting a car cover for the dust.companycardriver wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 7:21 pm Here’s my humble car den. Not as fancy as some but it does the job.
Need to sort a trickle charger and electrics out as well, and lights for that matter

18ft rear of my garage means I can have a mezzanine/office space. Tea, coffee, wifi, tv, comfy chair, storage, curtain to keep the drafts out in winter, lighting and my lovelies parked underneath in a large 5 x 4 metre roll of garage flooring.

I like that. I like that a lot. Excellent idea for an elevated "man cave".

Get a good roof on it, fresh paint and good lighting will make the world of difference!
