So lucky it was a press area. Less people and what look like a lot of deformable structures.
In spinal surgery today, apparently. Hope she recovers fully.

Reports suggest she caught the rear of another car. If was her wheel hitting the back of the car infront’s wheel, would certainly explain why she was ‘in flight’.
I have no idea of her competence, .. though am I alone thinking it’s crazy allowing a 17 year old at the wheel of a 170mph F3 car... or is this just the norm now?

Seems less crazy than allowing me onto a busy motorway when I was 17.

IMO, if they've been given the seat because they're talented and have proven their skill in more junior racing formulae it shouldn't be a problem... but if they've got the seat as a pay driver because they have wealthy family that's another matter...

So lucky not hit several other cars. From the view I saw it from it looks like the car hit an inside raised kerb in the braking zone. This pitched the car over the cars and marshals at the corner, and below the press stand. So lucky not to kill several other people if the car pitched at a different angle. Unlucky it happened on a street track with so many close barriers. I think Mark Webber did similar a few years ago when he hit the back of another car. It was on an open circuit with loads of run off. Would have been deaths at Monaco!

Looks like her throttle stuck open, the speed she was going. The other driver was lucky to get out too

Sounds like she’s now out of surgery and can move all four limbs.
I remember watching Ant Davidson flip at Le Mans thinking “uh oh”, but then he leapt out of the car and started running around! He did, in fact, also have a broken back, but it’s a testament to modern technology that both his crash and Sophia’s would not have been survivable a generation ago.
