High Mileage Cars

Post by RustyZ4 » Thu May 24, 2018 6:09 pm

I was just looking at a section on Autotrader about high mileage cars, wow there are some that are way up there in terms of miles, there is also a E85 that has done 205,000 miles :D

Just shows you, if you look after your car,,

Here's the link - https://www.motoringresearch.com/car-ne ... to-trader/

The Z4 is about 2/3 down

Skoda with over 400K, if you can get past the intro it's quite interesting to see the engine stripped.

No, just getting run in (I hope) - my E86 is on 86K now!

And my E91 daily with the same engine as a 2.5Si is on 133K.

Based on the Z4 in the article quoted they've both got lots of life left in them. :)
Coupes because stunning!

Keep banging fresh oil in and that’s the block and head taken care of. There’s way too much scaremongering about high mileage cars, plenty of oil changes and no reason any engine wont see 250k.

I don't think that is likely with newer cars (post 2000 or so) - but it is probably true of things like MK1 Escorts and similar! :)

You’ve not seen mine then. I think the only original bits are the gearbox and roof panel :P
Trigger’s Z4MC
Some bits now over 163,000 miles, some less than 1,000 miles.

I think modern electronics may prevent many modern cars from a ripe old age. :(

It's not the engine I'd be worried about. It's all the others bits that have also done mega mileage.

Suspension/bushes/transmission etc etc. Stuff that costs a fortune to replace.

A local taxi form uses a couple of Mercedes diesels (E class?) for runs to Heathrow/Gatwick.

Each car is coming to 5 years old and both are due to be replaced. They have completed around 500k miles each.

The driver on our recent trip, was full of praise for the cars (and less so for a Jaguar that had done only 150kmiles). Certainly from the (comfortable) rear seat the car was extremely smooth and quiet and did not even give the feeling of being a 5 year old, let alone a 500k mile old car.
G29 S30i in SFR - my wife's car and her third Z
BMW M2C - gone, replaced with an i4, but its only use is shopping, the Z is our main touring vehicle

Long gone, but not forgotten - 1988 E30 M3
