E86 Coupe Sport Tyre Choice

Post by Ronnie_space » Thu Dec 10, 2015 5:31 pm

I was planning to research and replace tyres over next year to non RFT due to harsh ride, currently running on stock BMW Bridgestones. However, have been caught short with one rear tyre failing MOT due to a gouge, both are worn at 2mm tread.

I need to replace and re-MOT within next 10 days and looking for help with tyre choice!

I want to replace two rear tyres with non-RFT with plan to replace fronts when they have worn.

Looking at Goodyear Eagle F1's as per recommendation searching through the forum.

My questions:

Are these the correct tyres/size for 135m rims:

Front 225/40/R18

Goodyear Eagle F1 ASY 2 XL 225/40 92Y R18 £83.90 ea. fitted (£167.80 for both)

https://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/tyres/br ... R18-92Y-xl

Rear 255/35/R18

Goodyear Eagle F1 ASY 2 XL 255/35 94Y R18 £123.46 ea. fitted (£246.92 for both)

https://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/tyres/br ... R18-94Y-xl

Total for all four corners: £414.72

Will there be any issues with handling and tyre pressure sensors by fitting two different rear tyres?

I am also not sure if the above are the correct speed and load rating.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks!

Not tried Goodyears on any of my Zs Ronnie so my best advice would be

2 of these https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/ ... 92y-427210

& 2 of these https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres- ... /?m[44]=on

As good if not better for less money

Don't rule out some of the high street fast fit garages.

I got four Michelin Pilot Sports from ATS Euromaster for a very smoky price. At this time of year their retail sales take a bit of a knock, so with some good negotiating you should get a good price.

I have had Goodyear F1 Eagle Assymetric 2s fitted the last couple of years and found them excellent. The grip in dry and wet is excellent, the ride is noticeably smoother and the tyres are quiet. (We cover 10-12000 miles of pleasure driving on forum runs and the back roads of Northumberland, much of it spirited driving).

Be aware though that when first fitted they take a couple of hundred miles to bed in and scrub to their best performance so don't be surprised if they break traction at first and take time building up to pushing them.

Quite a few forum members are using them and they were recommended by Swiftly on the Forum when I was initially using Falkan tyres.

You have the right spec and you are paying £20 less than I paid fitted from Black Circles 2 weeks ago - nice one

Thanks ALL of you for your input and help.

As per Paulgs1000's advice I have booked in to have two rear Goodyear F1's fitted on Monday at £246 fitted at Central Tyre Amersham, they matched the online tyre shopper price.

I plan to replace front with the same when worn.

Do I need to be aware of any tyre pressure sensor issues running non RFT? Is the sensor in the wheel/valve?

Thanks

Tyre pressure system works on wheel rotation off the abs sensor, so nothing to worry about.

I find the Zed very sensitive to tyre pressure - 2 psi can make a difference. I use 32 front and 34 rear on my roadster.

New rear boots today and am pleased to report the Goodyears very much improve the ride. I even found my myself purposely driving over a few usually avoided drain covers and bumps I'd normally navigate.. Surprised at how much bearable they are! 34psi in rears as suggested.

Thanks all for help, will be fitting the fronts in the new year when worn!

E86 Coupe Sport Tyre Choice

Post by Ronnie_space » Mon Mar 12, 2018 1:49 pm

Time has come around for me to put new fronts on - I took it into a tyre garage about a month ago and they told me there was about 1000 miles left in them, that's passed and I can see I'm pretty much at the wear limit.

They mentioned to me the fronts had uneven wear, the inner was more worn on both front tyres and recommended tracking.

I just wondered, is this wear quite typical, and is tracking a worthwhile thing to get done?

Any advise appreciated.

Should add that the fronts are currently the standard factory run flats. Will be replacing with Good Year Eagle F1 ASY.

Get the Michelin Pilot Sport 4.

Full set ordered from Blackcircles + free wheel alignment from ATS Euromaster cost me £479.36.

The difference is night and day

Thanks for the advice, I have the Goodyears on the back with plenty of tread already so looking to change the front to match. Difference with just putting these rears on was like night and day, having previously come from run flats.
