Tyre Size - 2.5 on 16"s

Post by sbhumphrey » Tue Apr 17, 2012 12:56 pm

About to ditch my RFT's and I am confused what size tyres I should get. My RFT's are Continentals 205/55 R16 all around. My main reason for the change is to soften the ride. I was just going to go 205/55's all round but on one of the posts it stated 225's were the minimum size for the Z4, can anyone help???? :?

Is there any good reason why you would fit smaller tyres? It looks like I have standard BMW Alloys nothing special!

Only reason I can think of is 205/55/16 is (I think) one of the options for winter tyres on 16"s - perhaps someone got confused in the past and stuck that size normal tyres...?

 It seems after asking my wife to check the Z4 registation document I actually own a 2.2 not a 2.5, that would explain the tyre size.
:x Now to contact the garage that sold me the car and then my insurance company!

Wouldn't be too worried as I believe there's not a massive difference in power between the 2.2 and 2.5. Still a 6-cyl :)

Is that actually still the correct tyre size though? Perhaps other 2.2 owners can confirm? I was under the impression the smallest tyres on a Z4 were the 225/50/16...

225/50-16 is the smallest tire size shown for a Z4 that I can recall ever seeing.

Apparently BMW did sell the 2.2 with 205/50 R16's all round. I suppose the option of either 205's or 225's should allow for more tyre choice :) I am not overly concerned with the engine size, just a little miffed that the garage said it was a 2.5 I do 800 miles a week in her and so far have had no complaints regarding power or speed etc just want a smoother ride!
Thanks for all the suggestions
