50 Tyre Test

Post by cj_eds » Sat Mar 10, 2012 11:11 pm

Saw this link on PH, a tyre test by Autobild with a simple test of adding up braking distance in wet and dry. I'm surprised by some of the results (Avon & Falken so low). Doesn't cover handling, wear or noise etc though.

Interesting info...
Every test result that I've ever seen place the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 very high but the rather quick wet stopping distance on the Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 is a big shock as all of the user reviews downgrade in the wet. Interesting that the Michelin SS is not listed... :o

Maybe Michelin didn't supply the SS for the test.

The omissions are probably due to lack of availability in the 17 size required.

There's also no Michelin PS3, Bridgestone RE050, or Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta.
Trigger’s Z4MC
Some bits now over 163,000 miles, some less than 1,000 miles.
Individual Ruby Black, Individual extended champagne leather, plus many options

7th place: Uniroyal Rainsport 2

Still one of the favourite tyres I've used (not on the Z4 - had them on my Clio 172 years ago). I was tempted by them on the Z4 but Falkens got the mod being better reviewed for less money.

Likewise on the Uniroyal's, one of my past favourites on heavier saloons.

I notice the Falken tested was the new FK453 not the 452 most of us will have at the moment, I've no idea what the differences are though.

It's the replacement to the 453

edit: Of course by "453" i really mean "452"... Let me get my coat...

Presumably only a teeny bit of difference between them or they would have given it a thumping new name I suppose?

Surprised to see Fulda so high up the list :o

No Avon ZZ5? Given that they've put a lot of R&D into it, as their new premium tyre, surprised they didnt have one to test. But then the test is missing a few obvious contenders also...
