Winter Wheels?
Hi all,
Just interested too know how many owners have winter tyres fitted? I'm guessing the Zed will be as bad as my 1 Series M Sport. Last winter it was off the road for nearly 3 weeks when we had the snow and ice, running on 18s with Dunlop Runflats. This winter I forked out for a set of 16" alloys and Dunlop Ultragrip 7s runflats which have been great so thinking next winter if its worth getting a set of winter wheels for the new Zed.
Cheers,
Tim.

Re: Winter Wheels?
A few people run them myself included. The Z4 will be pants in the snow.
What wheels are on the 1 series? They might well fit the Z4, I think the brakes on the 20i will be OK for 16s.

I have BMW Style 229 on the 1 Series 16x6.5" ET42. I have traded the 1er in today even though my Z4 is not due until the end of March. The dealer has my 18" summer alloys in storage and are going to swap the wheels over and drop the winter wheels round to my house as was going to sell them.

If there is a chance Style 229 will fit the Z4 I might ask the dealer to keep them in storage for me.
Anyone reckon they might fit the Z4?
Cheers,
Tim.

Ah such an easy thing to say, but I think they will fit OK. But keep in mind that the arches with 17s look under-nourished and so with 16s even more so. And 6.5 is pushing it for width, the E85 16" wheels were 7J.
It'll probably look a bit like a dragster but if you can live with that?

Don't think Style 229 will fit
The Zed will be fitted with Style 325M ET29 fronts and ET40 rears.
Style 229 I think will be sruggling too fit on the front, will be OK on the rear.

Cheers Mike, to be honest I think it will look a bit daft with 16s onWondermike wrote:Ah such an easy thing to say, but I think they will fit OK. But keep in mind that the arches with 17s look under-nourished and so with 16s even more so. And 6.5 is pushing it for width, the E85 16" wheels were 7J.

I think best bet is to flog them and put the sale toward some 18s with winter tyres.

Tim.

Re: Winter Wheels?
I am running winter tyres at the moment but have recently got some 18" MV alloys with tyres which I am having refurbed. Once these are fitted to the car with normal tyres I will sell the 17"s as I really can't see me dashing to the garage, dusting the winter's off and fitting them for only a few days while we have snow?
Then change em round again? Nah don't think so.... If the snow gets that bad I will walk, healthier and hasslefree!

Wait until the first day it snows, everyone panics and realises that all the tyre places are sold out already, then stick them on babyBMW for a swift sale

Re: Winter Wheels?
Given the cost of winter tyres on 19" I've opted to keep a pack of snow socks in the boot. I'll drive cautiously in snow and if I get stuck, these should at least help me get out of a sticky wicket.. failing that, I'll press SOS on the dash lol..
