Tyres

Post by andmas » Tue Feb 21, 2012 8:19 pm

Just had two rear tyres fitted to my Z4 3.0Si. I requested Falken FK452's to replace those fitted and to match the front but the tyre shop have fitted Falken ZE912's. I queried with the tyre shop owner and he said that the ZE912's were just as good as the FK452's and as long as the directional 452's were on the front they would be fine. I thought that the same make and type of tyre should be on all 4 wheels, particually with a performance car. Tyrereviews.co.uk state that the FK452 is a Ultra High Performance Summer tyre whereas the ZE912 is a Premium Touring Summer tyre.

Not sure whether to go back and complain or just see how they go.

Any opinions or advise appreciated.

Not a high performance tyre IMO.

I would go back to the tyre shop. If you asked for 452s and he fitted 912s you have the right to a refund i reckon... or replacement with the goods you ordered.

Poor show from the tyre shop

912 is an older design .I would go back and have 452 fitted .

What did you pay for, and is there a difference in price?

I asked for prices for the FK452 but the invoice I have states ZE912. I paid £292 for the pair [255/35R18 94W XL] fully fitted with valves & balancing, which is the price I was quoted on the phone for the 452's. I checked supply prices on-line and the FK452's are around £3 more than the ZE912's so not a lot in money terms. Its the performance and suitability for the Z that concerns me.

If you ordered a dark blue car and they delivered a turquoise one would you accept it?

If you're not happy, take them back

That's it - they're going back to be replaced by the 452's or my money back!

Atrocious behaviour by the tyre shop - that is not the product you asked for!

Looking to get F452s fitted this coming weekend - had a long chat with the trye guy about the F912s vs the F452s...

He said the 912s are fine on a 'sporty saloon' but he wouldn't dream of putting them on a car specifically designed to be a sports car - he said the 912s are softer for a saloon's ride, will not give the feel expected from a sports-specific car, and will be eaten alive by a Z4...!

Si

(Just in edit, this place charge the same for both tyres, so there was no incentive for him to push me to the more-expensive tyres).

From their uk site - big difference

ZE912
Asymmetric Performance tyre suitable for small to mid sized cars. New asymmetric pattern with 4 wide circumferential grooves making the ZE 912 an incredibly stable tyre at high speed, and under heavy braking. New lateral groove design creates significantly improved water displacement performance with higher land ratio on the outer blocks of the tread resulting in higher load handling when cornering. Typically suited to performance hatch backs, small to mid sized executive/family saloons and MPV's. Target vehicles include anything from 120 to 250bhp.

FK452
Flagship high performance tyre
New premium tyre with silica based compound
Innovative tread design from motor sports racing technology
Improved resistance to aquaplaning
Jaguar F-Type 3.0 Supercharged V6 S, Stratus Grey, LSD, Active Exhaust, CF wheels, Performance brakes, Sports seats and mods ongoing
Gone but not forgotten Z4 3.0i SE Roadster ///M front, Red ///M leather seats, Aero sills
