Tyre Prices

Post by RichardG » Wed Feb 08, 2012 2:56 pm

Is it me or have tyre prices just jumped through the roof.

I have just recieved a quote from my local tyre centre for some Vreds and nearly fell off my seat.
235/35/19 fronts £163.00
265/30/19 rears £202.00

No problem thought I, Camskill or someone will do far better than that.

WRONG

Camskill
235/35/19 fronts £148.98
265/30/19 rears £189.86
Looked cheaper until you factor in the £2.99 delivery on each tyre and then say £10 to get them fitted then you get the

fronts @ £161.97
&
the rears @ £202.85

looks like I'll just be going straight to the local guy after all.

While I'm ranting

just ordered a set of Aero Skirts from BM Miniparts, paid extra for Saturday delivery and guess what DPD have just tried to delivery :headbang: Is'nt live tracking on the internet marvellous, even if I can't do anything about it being in sunny Buffalo, still no snow :P
Will now be writing to BM Miniparts seeking a refund of the extra postage charges.

Have a nice day y'all.

It might simply be due to supply & demand.

They've probably got more stock of winter tyres, so less space for summer tyres, plus the tyre manufacturer has probably slowed down production of summer tyres for the season.

The other reasons could be rises in the cost of raw materials.

19" PS2s used to vary in price between £210 and £290 for the same 235/35r19 front.

Sorry, but it's pure marketing spiel that claims 'up to 40% off' - they only need to have one tyre out of thousands that meets the 40% discount to be 'legally' allowed to use the phrase. The rest can be more expensive than RRP/MRP and they can still use the term. They don't even clarify what it's 40% off of...MRP, RRP, average/highest high street price, average/highest online price.

In my experience BlackCircles are one of the more expensive of the 'cheap' online tyre suppliers.

All I can suggest is to try all the online sellers you can find and go for whichever gives the best combination of value/service.

I have a list of several online tyre suppliers, Camskill were by far the cheapest, apparantly prices went up in January, to be fair to my local supplier he has always been very competetive on price with the online guys especially when you fator in the extras.

Effectively just clip on plastic covers, from what I can gather very easy to fit.

Same here. Camskill are showing as pretty reasonable for Vredesteins still - not as good as they used to be but not extortionate.
