Does Warranty Cover Tires?

Post by Simusid » Sat Nov 19, 2011 2:54 am

Yes, I did read the FAQ and yes I know this probably a stupid question but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Are tires covered under the bumper to bumper 50K mile warranty?

I took a good look at my rears today. With 20K miles on them they are *BALD* to the cord! I've got no problem buying new ones ($388 ea installed) but a friend with a new-ish 3 series said he thinks they are covered.

$388 each. Are you nuts? I bought a set of four hankook evo's installed for about $600. and that's on the German economy where the only cheap thing is beer.

You need to read through the tire treads ASAP. And visit tire rack dot com. For the same price as your two rears. You can get four non run flats. Your ride and handling will be much improved. Non run flats can be repaired at any tire shop. While run flats need a specialist shop for repair.

Depends, recently BMW have been selling tyre insurance which I'm guessing your friend has with a newer 3. I was offered it when i bought my M, fairly reasonable but just another reason to pay out. WIth the condition of Britain's roads after last winter it may make sense. Otherwise you need to buy them yourself.

The separate tyre insurance you can buy (from BMW or otherwise) only covers accidental damage, not wear and tear. I don't think I've heard of any warranty that covers consumables (i.e. items that are worn down by the user - such as brake pads, discs, tyres, etc.).

The warranty generally states that the items on the car are covered in case a defect arises - not that they'll be replaced when they come to the end of their natural life.

20k miles on rear tyres is nothing to be concerned about. Lucky you don't have an ///M :P
