What tyre sizes are you running on MV2s?

Post by Jare » Mon Jun 28, 2021 4:41 pm

Currently running 255/35 225/40 on MV2s on my coupe and I'm looking to increase the sidewall to improve the ride a little bit (styling too imo).

I want a slightly bigger sidewall, similar to below;

would 255/40 and 225/45 achieve this with the MV2's size?

What make of tyres are you currently using? Is your car on aftermarket, SE, or Sport suspension?

Mine is on MV2s on the same size tyres as you and I have Sport suspension, but the hard ride doesn't bother me. With the above info, I suspect others will be able to better advise.

I doubt if going up one profile each end would cause a problem.

The standard tyre sizes on the Z4Ms was 225/45x18 on the front and 255/40x18 on the rear, although for much the same reason as you I had 255/45x18 fitted on the rear of mine and haven't had any issues!

It will alter your speedo, but given how all my BMWs have over-read it will probably just make it more accurate. :lol:

But if your car is still on run-flats probably the best thing you can do for ride quality is to get rid of them whatever sizes you decide to get!
Coupes because stunning!

Interesting - I'm not on run flats but the ride could definitely do with some improvement, will consider 255/45

255/35 to 255/45 is a huge difference. most common understanding when changing wheels and tyres is to be within 2% of the original wheel diameter, going from 35 to 45 is 7.4% difference.

doing that would also add a full inch of ride height, so the car would be less of a low slung sports coupe, and look more like an off roader :?

personally, the furthest i'd go would be 255/40. or even 245/40 would go perfectly fine on a rear MV2 wheel.

have you considered dropping a wheel size? if ride comfort and big sidewalls is your thing, sell the MV2s and get some 17" wheels instead. could pair them with a 225/50 R17 and a 245/45 R17

Dropping to 17's was my first idea, but I figured changing tyre size would be a cheaper experiment.

If I could find someone that would swap some decent looking 17s in need of a refurb (with tyres) for my MV2s (in need of a refurb + with tyres) I probably would in a heartbeat.
