They wrote a three paragraph letter, but the gist of it was "tough sh*t". I think it wasn't even considered, generic reply of "probably pothole damage".
I know it wasn't me who caused the damage, it was either a dodgy tyre or the damage had been done before I got the car (only had it 2 months and done 150 miles) and took a while to show. I will never know, but paying £157.00 to change a tyre with 6mm of tread on it sticks in the throat a bit (and I'm not even Scottish) :)

If it had been a pothole I would have had a pretty good idea of where it was and would have gone to the council for compo.

Aye, and what’s worse is he quoted it in his response and never even commented on it :rcard:

Sorry for our trouble... Disappointing to see that from Michelin (I am on a set of PS4Ss after a set of MPSS). I would respond and ask them to offer you a voucher for a future purchase: if you don't ask you won't get...

In fairness I wouldn't expect them to own up and give me 100% refund but at least to offer a discount on a new one... I might try and investigate the cost of tyre insurance given the state of some of the roads on the Atlantic coast here in Ireland.

My thoughts exactly, at least some form of "sorry you had that experience, its super rare, we make excellent tyres here is a goodwill gesture"

I have emailed them back saying that I am disappointed in their response and will have to think carefully about buying their products in the future..blah bah blah. I don't expect a reply.

This is the letter. I find it a bit condescending, presuming everyone's a ferkin idiot.

      Dear Mr HEMSWORTH ,

Naturally we are concerned to hear of your dissatisfaction with your Michelin Group product. We confirm that your request with the case number 326913 has been processed.
We write in relation to your tyre complaint report. Thank you for the opportunity to comment. There can be many causes for the problem you have described, which are accidental in nature and caused while the car is in use. Damage of this nature is normally a consequence of forced contact with, for example, an unyielding object or the edge of a pothole or kerb and are not attributable to the tyre. From the information we have, we consider it likely that the damage has been caused accidentally. Unfortunately, we therefore must advise you in the circumstances that we will be unable to offer you compensation.

In case of any questions, the MICHELIN Consumer Care Team is at your disposal at the following address: [email protected]

      Best regards,

      MICHELIN Consumer Care

I had the same with a Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2 a few years ago, contacted them about it and got pretty much exactly the same response.

It just appeared one day after driving around 5 miles home from work, no potholes etc.
