Very slow tyre pressure loss.

Post by TONYMOR » Tue May 25, 2021 11:00 am

E89 near side front tyre pressure warning light appeared about a month ago. I checked pressures and front near side was down to 25 psi. No problem for three weeks and then light showed again.
I removed wheel and inflated and filled bath with water placed wheel in and carefully checked all round. No cracks on wheel and no air bubbles after an hour of inspection.
I’ve refitted wheel and I check it with my own smart pump it looses around a 1lb pressure in a week. Any advice?

FWIW..had a very similar problem with fresh set of GY all seasons on my 17" winter wheels..

No obvious leaks..eventually took it back to the tyre man..dismounted,,,cleaned the rim, remounted..now after 10 weeks lost 1 psi which I think is acceptable..

I've had this a few times. It can be bad tyre fitting (poor seal) but it happens on some of my MV2s on my E86 because they could use a refurb. Some surface corrosion makes it harder for the tyre to make a tight seal with the wheel. It's usually fixed by removing the tyre, rubbing the wheel down, and refitting it. I'd just take it to a good tyre shop and let them deal with it.

Oh, have you tried checking that the inner part of the valve isn't loose? You can get a tool to tighten it.

+1 on checking the valve, it's sorted 'slow' punctures on several of my cars over the years. A key only costs a couple of quid.
