Hi All,
Yesterday I finally took my zed off run flats and put it onto PS4’s.
Unfortunately when I came to pick up the car, there was damage on a couple of the rims from where the tyres had been put on and off.
I had an experience around 18 months ago where a different tyre shop damaged my rims replacing a like for like Bridgestone RFT. Luckily this time I was paranoid and took photos 15 mins before I dropped it in for the run flat removal to save a “he said, she said” discussion.
In this case the manager of this tyre shop was excellent and is sorting a refurb of the two damaged rims.
I’m running genuine MV2’s which were refurbed by First Aid Wheels to a high cosmetic standard in December 2018. I have been extremely careful to keep them that way(one slight nick on all 4 prior to yesterday)
I guess my question- am I expecting too much that a refurbed rim should hold up to tyre replacement? Or have I been burnt by two poor tyre shops not being as careful as they should be?

Are your MV2’s like cheese for tyre replacement?

It's not the rim itself that's at fault , it's a combination of fitter & finish ( looks like paint + lacquer) powdercoat is far more durable
Getting a new tyre onto a freshly painted or powdercoated wheel should not leave any marks but getting a tyre off can easily mark the paint though pic2 does like a clumsy move hasn't helped
Were the wheels refurbed with the Bridgestone tyres fitted ?

Thanks Mr Wilks!
Yeah, wheels were refurbed with the bridgestones on it, and replaced back on after refurb completed. guess if the damage getting them off pre refurb will have been masked by the refurb afterwards. This is effectively their first test of having a tyre changed.
It’s shame that the original refurb isn’t holding up, it looks close to brand new still and the paint/lacquer looked very close to stock from my eye. First Aid Wheels came highly recommended from here and I thought they had done a very thorough job!

When I last had tyres fitted there was a sign saying they wouldn’t cover damage to refurbed wheels as the quality of finish can vary greatly. Understandable to some extent so it’s very fair they’ve covered your refurb.
