Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the rears on an 18" wheel 255/35/R18, not 255/40/R18?

I guess there wont be a huge difference, but with spacers you might find rubbing at high steer angles and the speedo "under-read" will be reduced by a bit as well.

Not on a Z4M, as it has different tyres sizes (front & rear) to a non-M.

...and why would a rear wheel rub at “high steer angles”?
Trigger’s Z4MC
Some bits now over 163,000 miles, some less than 1,000 miles.
Individual Ruby Black, Individual extended champagne leather, plus many options

I have those tyres in that size fitted on the MR right now. My third set of MPSS rears.

Old tech tyres now that have been left behind
Any up to date half decent mid range tyre will match it for less money ( Vred / Kumho / Dunlop / Falken/Avon )
On a track might be ok but for general everyday use they are lethal on anything other than warm dry tarmac & takes 20mins minimum to bring out any grip  last set i had i found them woeful & couldn't get rid fast enough .

Much truth in what you say Mr Wilks.

But the whole sports car thing, for me, is about the crisp sunny days, after you have warmed the engine, after you have warmed the tyres. Just enjoying the car pushing on down a twisting, undulating, B road, on a cool sunny day. The time and effort required to create those moments is all part of it and in the right conditions the MPSS is still a very good tyre.

There is many a time, dark, wet, covered in leaves and muck from farm traffic, that I could travel faster down the same road in my Mazda2 Capella. But it's not quite the same experience.

Browsing tyre prices today, I noticed that MPSS are still more expensive than MPS4 for the back of the ///MR.

https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop ... preis_bis=

There seems to be a move over to the MPS4 on here. Though I am intending to stick with the older tyre for my next set. :)

Bit of an older thread revival but if anyone wants some excellent Michelin Supersports I will have some available,,z4m size. Looking for around £45 a tyre, back ones only done 2k miles or so.

I've been going back and forth deciding between the MPSS and MPS4 and think I've decided on the MPS4. Which tyres other than Michelin would you recommend that are better? I'm not fussed about price. Looked at the Goodyear Eagle F1 SS which appear better but wont fit staggered 108s

are you sure? i can see GY F1SS in a 225/40/r18, and a 255/35/r18 - they would probably be my choice if it wasnt a michelin.

EDIT unless you're looking for M sizes...

Have a look at the new Bridgestone Potenza Sport - supposedly better than the Michelin PS4S and Goodyear Supersport...and available in quite a few sizes already.

https://www.bridgestone.co.uk/car-tyres ... enza/sport

Z4M sizes
225/45r18 (£130-ish)
255/40r18 (£170-ish)

Z4 sizes
225/40r18 (£90-ish)
255/35r18 (£150-ish)

Although Bridgestones tend to wear faster than Michelin or Goodyear, so factor that into your value-for-money calculation.

Very interesting to see they perform better than the MPS4S. Something else to consider now :headbang:

I'll be coming from Potenza RF so anything will be an upgrade.
