What size spacers.............

Post by enuff_zed » Wed Oct 16, 2019 7:19 pm

......................would I need to perfect the look of my, otherwise standard, Z with these 18" wheels?

Don't want to lower it by the way.

For me nothing on the front , the rear i would add 10mm/12mm or 15mm .
It will enhance the stance measurably .
I always ran 9.5 et 35 rears on the 3 E89s i owned , sat & handled a treat plus filled out the arches without rub
To get the same rear fit you would need a 15mm spacer

Ha ha!
I had a little bet with myself that you would be along within the hour. 29 minutes!

So you think the front looks ok. So would be 12 be a safe bet or are you saying 15 is fine with no issues?
I think I will still have a fair vertical clearance as I don't intend to lower it, but cornering hard?

Let's face it, the spacing out is for the look when the thing is parked up really.

That pic above shows the E89 "problem" off perfectly , the rear wheel track looks narrower than the front  not a good look imo & as with the ZMs a wider rear stance looks far better which is why i switched all the previous wheelsets off & went for a wider rear track
If you added to the front too you would be chasing your tail so to speak .
Add 12mm or 15mm hubcentric to rear & you should be suited

Agreed.
For a while I owned both a 2.8i Capri and a 1.6 Mk2.
Exactly the same issue with the wheels not filling the arches properly on the smaller model.

I like these wheels. Easy to keep clean, good looking (to me), and a relatively comfortable ride, which will improve shortly when I wave bye bye to the RFTs.

So I think then that I will start with a pair of 15mm spacers on the rear. Thank you.

Any recommendations on which to buy?

Ive used Mtec ones many times https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-15MM-MTE ... Swg6Nc~kaG on ebay around £35 with bolts , i wouldn't buy into the snobbery over buying spacers with big brand names , simply not necessary

Excellent. Thank you for your time tonight.
Just off to add to my list.
5 year maintenance package runs out in November and I've kind of been wary of any changes until it has expired. Just not worth the arguments.

Have you thought of 16mm? I bought a set of these recently, and the quality was decent...

Bit of a thread revival, as I still need some help.

I have decided to definitely fit 15mm spacers on the rear and leave the front as it is.
But............. all my wheel studs are black.
I can only find spacers with chrome/silver bolts.
My OCD wouldn't cope with different colours front and back, so what options do I have?

Covers? Replacement silver fronts? Or ideally, would prefer longer black bolts for the rears.

Oh, and to clarify further, I don't want black spacers either thank you.

Hi, you could buy the silver bolts & spray them with black bbq paint. I’ve used it before with good results

You could just put black covers on, probably the cheapest and quickest way.

I have question regarding the spacers I assume the same set up would work with the 294 model alloys? would 12 or 15mm spacers also work if the car is lowered on eibach or H&R springs? Also some say adding spacers can mess with the other components of the car like wheel bearings etc., what is the experience of those here that have spacers?

I ran 15/12mm spacers on my 3.0si for a couple of years with no wheel bearing issues but it definitely made the car feel more twitchy, felt like it needed constant correction on motorways :?
