If you are remotely interested , mildly curious or better still about to part with a significant sum of money for new tyres yet struggling to decide which ones then this 15min clip is well worth a watch .
Interesting that 1 main contender is missing from the 10 tested :? Pirelli Pzero pz4 which ive tried & really like , otherwise for those who can't get through the whole test it pretty much sums up my own thoughts in that there is very little to split the premium tyres(Michelin / Conti /Goodyear) from the almost premium (Vredestein) & factor in price difference its hard to see why there is so much swooning over the PS4S :( yes very good but worth double some of its contenders ? I don't think so

Although the review is very comprehensive and nuanced the one missing ingredient is the cost of ownership...

Ie you pay x for the tyres inc fitting...they do y miles till they get to a prescribed wear limit..what’s the cost per mile ...

Add that as a variable and the integration of the review score and cost per mile would make interesting reading ..imho

Totally agree & for myself it's as important as any of the other factors.
Obviously difficult to include in a head to head test but it should be addressed at some point

Nice and informative vid there Mr Wilks. Does go to show the best mid range aren't a million miles away from the best premium. It also reaffirms the economy stuff really are a false economy. Puts a real sense of dread in you to think there's folks on the roads out there all around you on some truly terrible tyres.

One review I'd like to see at the moment is Goodyear F1 Supersports vs AS5. It would be interesting to see an impartial opinion on how different they really are.

Sit in the reception of any tyre dealer for a while and you will see the average people carrier driver come in and ask for the cheapest tyres he can get. When he’s offered a set of Goongilly Widowmakers he doesn’t blink, just takes them as they are only £20 per corner. Never mind the 4 child seats in the back. Cheap is always best.

Another thought after watching the video...
This is a review by a professional driver who really knows how to handle a car and the car is a proper performance car that will communicate very well exactly what it's doing. In this case, he can feel the full effect each tyre is having and adapt appropriately. If the tyre has good grip but doesn't feel as good then he can drive through it to find the grip whereas if a tyre feels great but has less grip he can use the confidence it gives to push the tyres harder. Hence his favourites will be the tyres that have the best combination of grip and feel. That's all fine and what most of us are aiming for.
Stick an average driver in an average car and get them to try all these tyres and the results will likely be very different. I can't help but think that for someone like my Mrs, who has an Audi TT but isn't a very experienced (or capable) driver then she would probably be better off with tyres with more grip but which do not encourage her to push them as hard. Tyres that don't give as much confidence will encourage the driver to slow down more on bends and give more braking space (hopefully). If that tyre actually has as much grip as the better performance tyres then surely that would be the safest combination for the average driver.
