Tyre set up question please

Post by Commando_Rob » Mon Jun 10, 2019 9:37 pm

Hi all, I've bought 19" wheels for my 3.0i e85 thats lowered on eibach sports springs would 225/35/19 and 265/30/19 work ok or would I be better going with 255/30/19 for the rears?

The ET are 38 front and 45 rear widths 8.5 & 9.5

Thanks in advanced.

I wouldn't envisage any problems with your desired set of tyres on those fitment numbers

If it were me I'd be going for the 255 rear if you're running a 225 front. 265 is rather unnecessary on a car of this power. For some reference a z4m or e46m3 run a 225 front, 255 rear.
But as mr wilks says there is no issue as such running a 265 if you like (the looks  ).

I was originally planning on going 255 30 19 rear, but am worried that on a 9.5 wide wheel it might look over stretched ??

Definitely dont go 255-30 on a 9.5j rear.
You will have no problem with 265-30 or 255-35

ive looked at 255 35 19 but that calculates to a big difference of speedo error etc, where as 265 30 19 is much closer to original. I guess 265 it is then?

How do you define "error" :? what you will most likely find is the speedo becomes more accurate

I'm guessing then a 245/35 R19 on a 9J would give you a similar correctional 'error'?

I put my Z4s original wheel and tyre sizes ( 225 40 18 8j ET 47 / 255 35 18 8.5j ET 50) into a "will they fit" alternative wheel and tyre sizes calculator and the closest to original came out at 225 35 19 and 255 30 19, 235 35 19 & 265 30 19 is also close, like has been advised by you guys 255 30 19 on a 9.5 wheel will be too stretched hence my thinking 265 and 225, so fronts don't run and rears aren't over stretched :scratchhead:

I'd be happy with 225 40 19 & 255 35 19 (as has been suggested by TomK) but think these may rub?

Another point why are Z4M oe 18" tyre sizes 225 45 18 / 255 40 18 and non MZ4 225 40 18 / 255 35 18 and not the same. :dizzy:

The 255/35 19 would give you a much bigger error on your speedo (+4.2%) compared to the 265/30 19 which would be (+1.3%) and, given that speedos are calibrated to read a little higher than actual speed, probably a bit more accurate. Same goes for the fronts - 225/40 would be about +4% compared to +0.7% of the 225/35.
