Anyone successfully dipped a set of 108's ?

Post by Chris_D » Sun May 12, 2019 11:41 am

Mine are looking very scruffy with paint flaking and blobby touchup all over them and also as noticed by my cantankerous nephew on his recent visit; 'Wheels are lookin proper shabby lar. Why don't you get new ones?'.

I'm thinking about dipping instead of refurbing due to all the complications/cost/short-term benefit involved, but all those sharp edges concern me re. tearing of the rubber etc.

Anyone dipped a set and been happy long-term?

I had my old 108’s split, dipped, sand blasted & powder coated, including having the diamond cut edge painted.

It was only Mrs J borrowing it that caused a rash to appear & this was the condition below when I sold it 3 years later

@Jembo , i think Chris is referring to the temporary "paint all surfaces in one go " plasti dip method of wheel refurb :D where "108s", "successfully" & "dipped" have never previously made it into the same sentence :P for obvious reasons

Look great Jembo.
However, I meant 'dipped' as in Plastidipped. i.e. not dipped in paintstripper as part of an expensive refurb procedure.
I'm looking to maybe sand down the touch-up blobs and flake edges for a smooth surface and then spray with PlastiDip.
The sharp edges of the end of the 5 'spokes' concern me that the rubber PLastidip will just tear at those points however.

Correctomundo Mr Wilks.

You think I'd be on a high-jink to knowhere with the old Plastidip on these?
