The only issue with buying a cover to fit the space saver is if you get a puncture you're going to have to put a full-size wheel in the boot!

That is true, but that should only be for the drive to the garage. What a cover will do is prevent the space saver making everyday boot objects dirty and also prevent small everyday objects accidentally falling through the holes in the steel rim. I am happy to pay £8 for those benefits.
