Ditching the runflats help?

Post by bryand » Wed Mar 27, 2019 4:51 pm

As Formula 1 autocentres and currently doing a deal on Michelins (£13 off per tyre) plus £100 cashback from Michelin I thought now would be a good time to take the plunge and bin the RFT's.

I've done a fair bit of searching around but could do with a yes/no answer, I'm set on going 255/35/19 at the rear for some extra needed comfort but just not sure about the fronts, 225/35/19 or 235/35/19? This decision seems to come down to what wheel and suspension set up you are running. With that in mind I'm running a 20i E89 with M Sport springs and 326 alloys, any advice is greatly appreciated.

I ditched my R/F for Dunlop Max RT2s 225/40 R18 front and 255/35 R18 back, great grip, smoother ride, quieter, just remember to carry tyre sealant and pump.

You don’t need the deeper profile to improve the ride, just swapping out the run-flats for normal tyres will do that. I change to a deeper tyre to give the alloys just a bit more protection.
235/35/19 - 255/35/19
That’s on a 2009 35i on standard suspension.

General consensus is that 255/35/19 at the rear is the way to go. However, it would be worth finding out if people have gone for 225/40/19 or 235/35/19 at the front... And whether their cars are lowered on m sport or eibachs etc.
