How to get out of trouble?
I've used rats tails as well. Takes longer to install than a can of Holts tyre weld but they really do last, can't say I'd like to be doing it on a rainy day by the side of the road though. If the Holts stuff (which I haven't used yet) doesn't affect the TMPS then I'd probably opt for that method, and stick the bottle under the boot floor in the spot next to the battery.
Current: Still thinking...

If you've used the tyreweld etc. Do tyre places get arsey at the amount of goop they have to clean out?

Why would they? Certainly none have ever mentioned it when I have changed a tyre repaired with a rat's tail.

A rat's tail is different, just a bit of rubber right?
With the slime and tyre weld the whole tyre and wheel surface has goop on it that has to be washed out, adding to the process of just fixing a flat?
I'm probably just over thinking it

According to Holts https://www.holtsauto.com/holts/products/tyreweld/ and Slime https://www.slime.com/uk/products/auto/sealants/ they can be removed from the tyres and then repaired in the normal way. Whether this is the reaction when you take your tyre into your local branch of ATS is something else.

My experience of Tyreweld is:
1 The remaining pressure in the punctured tyre needs to be low enough to allow the Tyreweld to enter.
2 You need to follow the instructions about speed & distance after using it. (The first time I did, I went straight to Kwik Fit without allowing the gunk to spread & set and, when they took the tyre off, it shot everywhere. Oops.)
The other Z punctures I've had were beyond Tyreweld, needed a new tyre and I wished I'd had a spare.

i like the extra boot space, but a space saver would be great

its worth mentioning that any gloop or tyreweld that is put in the tyre will send the balance of the tyre to hell and back like water in a barrel slopping around (which it effectively is). I had this proved to me at a tyre place when he put it on the balancing machine prior to repairing it.
i know nobody will be being silly after a roadside repair, so just worth knowing and appreciating if you get a bit of wheel wobble

If you ever think I'm off my rocker.. Just put me back in it and walk away... It's the kindest thing

How to get out of trouble?
I'm about to order my new wheels (non RFs);
I have TPMS valves, so don't want to risk the 'gloop' damaging them; so am looking at the "tails" option with 3 small CO2 Capsules.

Be interesting to see what it links too in a few years time, perhaps a nice bacon butty.

they do exist, I thought this might have been a mousy myth or a ratty tale perhaps....buzyg wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 6:07 pmZ4paul wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 5:27 pmHi Rob, just looking around for info on tpms and came across your post mentioning 'rats tails' - new one me and seems the link now takes one to a ebay page selling blood pressure monitors??
