E89 Z4 Tyres 18"

Evening!

Apologies, I've hardly posted here and I'm asking something that seems to have been talked about to death. I just couldn't help but feel totally swamped with information with no general theme for the e89.

I've just bought an E89 Z4. I'm very pleased with it, however, it does need some new rear tyres. Thought that would be easy, turns out not so much.

My car currently has 4 Potenza RE050A-I. I gather these are what BMW supplied the car with, but they aren't the latest gen 3 tyres which are labelled S001. Thing is, the S001 RFT A) isn't on blackcircles, and B) really doesn't seem to be that well reviewed.

So question is, what should I do?

- Go for 4 new non-RFT tyres like the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 and get an inflator?
- Go for the 2 new Bridgestone RFT tyres.
- Go for the 2 new Michelin PS3 RFT and accept a mix on each axle for a bit.

I just want the car to drive as well as it can and any increase in ride quality is a nice bonus.

I think you’ll find the consensus on here will be Option 1

I also have the Bridgestone runflats, (bought the car 3 weeks ago) and really don't like the ride with them. After a fair bit of research, (mainly on here) I am looking at option 1 and hope to sell the runflats on.

Definitely option 1, having been in a similar situation I would absolutely recommend the change! :driving:

Option 2 if you wanted to keep the RFT... but as mentioned the consensus on here is very clear.. Ditch them ASAP

On option 3, I haven't personally experienced this but some have noted that you have some undesirable side effects if you don't have matching on the 4 corners. Can't say from experience though.

But if you are looking for "the car to drive as well as it can" option 1 is a no brainier.
