Sorry another Tyre/CSL question...

Post by ShaunKC » Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:55 pm

Hi Folks,

I am looking for some advice on tyres for CSL wheels (to fit a Z4M), I realise that there are various threads throughout the forum and they give great advice, particularly regarding if the wheels are genuine or not. However there are so many options regarding tyre sizes and I would specifically like to know if my current tyres will fit or should I be budgeting for some new tyres to go with the wheels?

The wheels are OEM CSL's
Front 8.5j x 19 et44
Rear 9.5j x 19 et27

My current tyres are 265/30/19 and 235/35/19

From reading various topics it appears that these will fit straight onto the CSL's. If some knowledgable person could clarify I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks in advance.

Perfect numbers Shaun , though my preference has always been for 255 35 on a rear 9.5 Z rim , the 265 30 is generally considered the " right one "

That's great, thanks Andy; a nice quick conclusion putting my mind at ease :D

Additionally Shaun the 255 35 19 is a fraction off the 255 40 18 rev rotational speed, whereas the 265 30 19 is a few % off.

Decided on 255 19” rears in the end, am sure u won’t regret it... what pressures do you intend to run? 30.5F/32R?

Only issue with 255 is if they come up narrow. So might be worth checking if possible. I know Taz and Lynchy both commented on there tyres giving little if any protection and from memory they are both on 265’s

Mr Wils will probably recall the brand they both have.

Michelin’s have a nice thick rim protector on the 255’s I fitted, though your right that extra 1cm on 265’s made those I took off that bit fatter

Hankook on one set , Kumho the other.
Does depend on brand , I know Conti, Michelin & Vredestein all give decent cover to rim with 255-35-19 on a 9.5j

I have Michelin's all round on mine at the moment, and at the price they cost me, I don't want to buy a new set if I don't have to. Unfortunately if you remember my front left when I saw you after the tunnel Jembo, the extra tyre protection wasn't quite enough!!

I would wager genuine to be on par with the other 2 forum Sepang MC’s... & from the sound of it you’re making first dibs on his rather tasty outgoing split rims

Yeah tried last time Shaun was thinking of letting go but I can understand why he kept hold them.
