Z4M 19” size option & load index

Post by Jembo » Sat Oct 27, 2018 6:52 am

I’ll be looking into some new PS4s’ for my 19” acquisition over the coming few months, where I want to keep the 225 / 255 footprint & rolling ratio.

There’s some conflicting advice in the threads, so like people’s opinion whether I’ve identified the correct profiles for 19” on the //M

- Load Index 92Y
- Front 225 x 40 x 19
- Rear 255 x 35 x 19

Thanks

Z4M 19” size option & load index

Post by Davidjohn14 » Tue Oct 30, 2018 9:34 pm

Hi
I've got the baby 3.0si Coupe and I've fitted the CSL
245 35 19 and 275 30 19
No rubbing, scratching, bumping and I think they look fantastic. :driving:

Sounds good. Stock CSL sizes are 235/35 and 265/30 but the ride isn’t great and they’re 2-3% smaller diameter than stock.

Is the car lowered? If so, there’s some potential for the fronts to rub on the outer arch liner as they’ll be on a 8.5” rim and the 4S sidewalls are chunky. mr wilks will probably know for sure.

As above, 245/35 and 275/30 is also a decent option.

This is the 'correct' size and standard fitment from BMW for E46 M3 in 19" size, the 18" option on M3 is of course exactly the same as our cars.
FWIW I think you are quite right to keep the same footprint and radius, bigger does not mean better when it comes to tyres and your car's handling by any means.

Bear in mind your wheels are the CS not CSL so fronts being narrower at 8j then 225 40 19 was the original factory spec for them along with 255 35 19 rear ( on 9.5j width )
On the CSL fronts are wider at 8.5j so tyre changes to 235 35 then the rears go 265 30 .
If i was tyring up your wheels id go 225 35 front / 255 35 rear simply because the front arch gap & liner on a ZMC isn't the same as a E46 M3 that the wheels were specced for originally
A 225 40 19 won't look oversized on a M3 or E89 but on a Z4M id say they might look too much so worth trying on car before you put £ into rubber

Ah, they’re CS? That’s cool. They are better sizes for the Z4 in some ways, because the rear arches have loads of space and the fronts are pretty tight.

Some pics here of 265/35 and 235/40 on my car: viewtopic.php?p=1481243#p1481243

Does look a little chunky. :D

Few pics here I can find from when I had CS rims on the car 4 years ago or so, running 225/40 f 255/35 r and I think lowered slightly on eibachs. Personally I think they look fine and not so rubber band as the CSL option size, but more importantly (to me at least) is that they keep the same rolling radius and footprint front and rear as the 18" oem option and some semblance of ride comfort.
One thing for sure with the CS fronts is you will want to run a spacer if you are concerned about looks at all. These pics were with a 12mm spacer front needed to clear the 135i calipers I had then and (iirc) a 10mm rear. Even with the 12mm they're still fairly tucked in.

I’m running 1M 359’s on my MC
.
Front Wheels - 19x9" ET31
Rear Wheels - 19x10 ET25

Front Tyre - 245/35/19
Rear Tyre - 275/35/19 (usually 265)

Slight rub on the OS liner on full left lock in reverse. Lowered front and rear (unsure how much)
