E85 19” tyre sizes

Post by ErrErrminator » Tue Oct 02, 2018 1:07 pm

I’ve done a search and read a few similar discussions, but not found answers to my exact questions.

On a E85 with sport springs, not lowered, with 8x19 ET37 fronts and 9x19 ET39 rears, would 235/35 and 265/35 tyres fit without issue, or rub the arches?

Ideally I would opt for 225/35 fronts, but a set I am considering have good 235s fitted. The rears would need replacing. I don’t like stretched tyres and would prefer 35 profile if possible, although I guess 30 on the rear would give the best match to OE diameter, etc.

I have plugged the numbers into that and it quantifies the differences, which is good info. What it doesn’t do though is tell me if rubbing, or other problems will occur in reality.

With a 8j front you wouldnt need a 235 tyre , 225 35 is fine with no stretched appearance , to be 100% sure of no rub however i would consider 215 35 especially with et37
Rears i would go 255 35 on 9j rims & you won't get any rub off et39

Definitely 225 on the fronts (or 215 as mentioned above) and 255 on the rears. I tried 235's on the front first when I got my 19" wheels and they constantly caught on the arches. Looked like I was on tractor wheels too.

I changed to 225 35 on the front and they are perfect. I actually got away with 275 on the back (came with the wheels) without rub but changed to 255 30 to fall in line with BMW's own recommendation.

Edit: Forgot to mention my wheel specs, Rear : 9.5J, offset 35 , Front 8.5J, offset 45

Thanks fellas. Bit of a nuisance though, as it means swapping out an almost new set of 235s, adding a couple of hundred quid to the cost of the wheel change.

I have wheels from a BMW 1M fitted style 359

Fronts are 9” et 31 with 245/35 tyres

Rears are 10” et 23 with 275/30 tyres

The fronts catch the liner when on full left lock in reverse gear.
The rears sometimes slightly catch the arch on large bumps.
The car is lowered with Eibach springs and H&R springs
Current - Z4 MC, M3 CSL, S54 Z3MR, Z1.

That’s interesting, I didn’t know they were different.

I knew the rear end was narrower on the Z3M hence lower et wheels.
