Buying part worns

Post by greg81 » Mon May 07, 2018 8:37 pm

Hi all,

I've been trying hard to avoiding part worn tyres but I'm afraid I have to buy a pair of rears. I did manage a pair of new Uniroyal RS3 fronts but been looking at something like the following for rears...

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 2835465757

Anything I should be watching out for in particular?

I've been keeping an eye out for age (these are 2716), tread depth (ideally looking for 5mm), no puncture repairs or sidewall damage and even wear across the whole tyre.

Anything I'm missing? Hoping to get a decent pair of 255/35/19 for about £130max

A brand new pair of Uniroyal RS3 to match your fronts is £220 delivered , surely its worth the extra £100 in the context of the overall set of new wheels & what the tyre actually does for the car :?

I don't have a lot of money. I'm currently borderline going to sell the wheels and tyres is took me 5 months to save up for.

That would be a shame , if the Contis are in budget then go for those or sit tight for a while

Cheers. That set of Sport Contact 6 with 6.5mm near me seems like an absolute steal

I'd try to avoid part-worns for my Z4, but sometimes needs must!

That pair look like a great deal - hope it works out.

Well I definitely got the better end of that deal. The guy had just bought 4 new PS4 so needed the space for them.

Tyres are almost as new and after a good close inspection I was very pleased.

Measuring an average of 6.5mm across each tyre. Bargain of the week at £100 for the pair?
