Refurbed style 294 split rims issue?
Hi all
Have sent an enquiry to the refurb company but wonder what you guys think...
Had 4 of my split rims refurbed about 10 months ago, since then have always washed the wheels with non acid cleaner, car shampoo and used Williams spray on wax to maintain..
All 4 wheels inner edge has started to blister (initially I thought it was the calipers paint that accidentally got on the rim during painting) but over the months spread along the rim, the front has even start blistering ...
I’m going to try and get the refurb guys to look at it , but do you think the finish wasn’t applied robust enough ? Have attached pics... thanks as always for any advice !

Paint /lacquer as opposed to powdercoat looks that way & whilst it may initially be a more perfect finish to the eye only powdercoat will give you any real endurance against the inevitable

Looking at the bolts they weren't split when refurbed so chances are the corrosion was never gotten rid of in the first place and is seeping through.

Oh dear, I presume they need to split the rims to refurb each component ... is there a recommended place near KT12 that would do split rims? Might have to cut my losses, no point getting them to do a smart repair on them (chances are 10 months down the line they will try and wash their hands of it ).

Yes they do you cannot refurbish a split rim correctly without doing so did you know they would not split them ? did they give any sort of guarantee for the work ?
They will not be able to do a lot with these unless they do they need striping back to bare metal to get rid of the problem.

Refurbed style 294 split rims issue?
Hi
A bit of a nightmare with this, would love some advice on the best constructive way to deal with this ... I sent my car to get it looked at after some delay their side and wrote them the following note :
Hi Xxxxx:
Here’s some notes regarding the split rim alloy refurb. If your wheel guys can sort them out I would be most grateful !
1) Wheels were refurbed April 2017
2) I started noticing flaking on the inner edge of all alloys Nov 2017
3) At present all 4 wheels are flaking and bubbling (with one of the front paint getting loose and detaching.
4) I haven’t driven the car that much and mostly in dry weather …Screenshot of my April 2017 MOT to April 2018 MOT as you can see car only done just under 2500 miles.
5) I haven’t kerbed my wheels and wash and seal them regularly (as you can see the paint on the outer edge has held up well and great condition. Screenshot of the products I use attached,
6) Keys enclosed, also locking wheelnut key and the plastic wheel bolt cover removal tool in toolkit I left on passenger footwell.
To which here’s the reply :
Hi Will
Bad news I am afraid.
After the wheel refurb company saw the alloys they have declined doing them under warranty as the area of which they have corroded is prone on bmw wheels, basically its the lip where the barrel meets the face part and I didn't realise they don't warrant split rims unless its a real obvious issue.
I have tried mate but don't know what to do now.
Kind Regards
I have written back asking for his wheel refurb company contact so I can take this up myself, advising I will get a second opinion and will dispute this direct.
Feeling pretty stressed to be honest (I’ve had fair share of half arsed jobs done to my car recently and have had one fight too many ) it’s a bit unreasonable to claim and blame this on Bmw split rims?
Thanks as always

There's no way around the inevitable , they need taking apart , chemically stripping then powdercoating at a place that knows how to produce a decent quality job .
At which point you will have a far more durable finish than they left the factory with

Yes ... I think you are right .. I wouldn’t want them to redo it if they make a half arse job of it again anyway .. just wish companies treat your car as if it was their own, they tell you they do, but in practice they don’t give a monkeys!
