I just read in a post that there is a ten minute process to alter the left hand paddle to make it left pull down and right pull up.
Can anyone furnish me with details on how to do this? Please let's pretend I know nothing about electrics so make your answers as detailed as possible

You can swap the paddles from an older or newer model to change behaviour

Hopefully someone who's actually done it will be able to elaborate

My local indy will do it for £50 but unfortunately I have no idea how he does it.

Thanks for the info Dave, I have a good indy near me so I'll pay him a visit. Just can't get used to using my thumb, or if I do start getting the hang of it I then get into my TT and wonder why my paddles not working properly.
Is this a change that can be done with Carly Pro? If anyone could give me a definitive answer please as I am about to buy carly so don't want to pay an indy if I can do it myself.

It involves removal of the airbag and pulling the left hand paddle wiring plug, reversing the pins on said plug and reassembly.

Personally I'd leave it or switch with later single direction paddles as it will get confusing.

Im actually doing this today and following the directions in the video below, doesn't look too difficult but I'm sure I will encounter some issues along the way.

The Z4 is different from the 335i, the connectors for the paddle shifter go directly to the paddle shifter and not the steering wheel control. So you have to remove the steering wheel control first and then the left hand side paddle shifter. Then all is required is to swap the 2 outside wires around and put everything back together.

I did this a couple of months ago on my 35i and now use the paddles whenever I want a more sporty drive.

I changed steering wheel over to a M Sport about a month ago, and plan was to switch wiring, but ran out of time (babysitting 2 year old at the same time wasn't a good idea!). But the wiring definitely went into the switch itself, although I recall a cable going into the loom for the steering wheel radio controls which didn't make much sense to me..

Definitely something I want to do also, as moving between cars just confuses me. Keep us posted on how you get on.

Right I gave it a shot but as said above the wiring goes straight to and from the paddles bypassing the wheel switches and the wiring disappears behind the wheel. In the 4th photo, the red, brown, yellow and white cables all come from the paddle.

Both paddles are connected via 2 blue wires as pictured, I switched the orientation of the wires hoping this would change the orientation (kinda knew at the time that it wouldnt) but no difference.

Both paddles still operate in the same manner. This will need both shifters to be taken apart and peddled with, not something I'm willing to do so I'm just going to have to get used to how the paddles function.

There lies some of the confusion in this post, you have an E85 and this is in the E89 discussion section. They will both be different and your wiring is very different from my 35i, although the paddle shift looks similar.

I would unscrew and take the left hand paddle off and you will be able to see the connector that goes into it. It will more than likely have 3 wires, remove the connector and switching around the outside wires will probably work.
