The design is entirely different and no cleaning requirements exist to my knowledge on the e89.

Thanks Maniac, much appreciated, hopefully that's one job I don't have to do ,when we had our MX5 and I cleaned the drain holes out for the first time ,they was some debris in them I used a lengh of stiff elec cable to clear it ,Maniac wrote:The design is entirely different and no cleaning requirements exist to my knowledge on the e89.

I would keep an eye on the gutter that runs either side of boot lid.
All the water there drains through a gap and over the rear tail lights (brilliant design, thanks BM, just where we don't want water. Especially when you mess up the design and the tail light let in water!).
They could have fitted a drain hole and pipe through the bottom, as I had in a RX7, but that needed constant rodding.

Just had look at it . Your right it could have been better designed , from what I can see any debris would block it .does water run behind the light or over and down onto the rear bumper , our old Mx5 with an elec roof had a small collection funnel behind each seat were water run off was collected ,it was easy to clear out leaves and debris and push a piece of stiff elec cable down the hole which emerged in front of the rear wheels, simple .The E89 design requires you check these gutters regularly which I do .flybobbie wrote:I would keep an eye on the gutter that runs either side of boot lid.

In nearly six years this area has never become anything than a little dirty. There are no drains to clear like the e85

Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?
