Hardwire a dash cam - question about pillars covers

Post by lukas_4942 » Fri Apr 17, 2015 8:32 am

Hello guys!

I am going to fix a dash cam on my Z4 and I would like to hardwire it.
Does anyone know hot to remove the black matt cover of front pillars and also the one around the windshield (where sun visors are)?
I am scared to ruin them doing something wrong. :(
Any help will be appreciated! 8)
Thank you in advance!

I thought about linking to your how-to Alan, but the OP has posted in the E89 section so it might be different for them

Good Spot
In that case, it may be the same as my 2011 520d (F11) He'll just need the green&brown wire instead of the violet & white one, but everything else is the same procedure. :D

If you need to feed wires down the side pillars, like I did to take a feed from the dome light, just pull off the rubber door seal and there is enough gap to feed a wire without removing the black plastic trim.

Hello guys....
Thank you for your reply: I need to remove the black plastic trim from pillars because I need to reach the fuse box. Plus I have a dash cam with 2 ch...so it means I need also to make the power wire to run from rear camera to front one.
Any suggestion about how to remove safely the black trims from pillar will be very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Am looking to do this shortly with my 2CH Blackvue DR-650. Out of interest, where are you planning to place the rear camera on you Z4?

Hardwire a dash cam - question about pillars covers

Post by rgc610 » Thu Dec 27, 2018 12:12 pm

Number 5, I have all the components and am currently looking at the wire looms, unable to identify the green and brown wire. (BMW Z4 E89). I’ve been using your other guide and I believe as soon as I locate a wire to piggy back off using the connector I’ll be all good. Can you help at all / take a picture? Thanks a lot!
