Wiper Blades

Post by R.E92 » Sat Oct 25, 2014 1:48 am

Wipers are starting to squeak so I think it's time to change them.

I did a quick search and some people have gone with Bosch Aero Blades. Not much information or pictures on them though.

Does anyone have experience with changing the wipers on the Z4?

Looking at buying these as they look OEM but claim to perform better: http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/bmw-z4-yea ... er-blades/

The aero option would be these: http://www.wiperblades.co.uk/bmw-z4-yea ... er-blades/
But I'm not sure how they will look on the Z4, worried they may look a little out of place. There's also some mention of them sitting proud of the windscreen on the E85/86 forum.

I had a number of aero blades - all of them lifted off the screen, some worse than others. Hated them and went back to OEM like in your second link. They work best for me.

If they are squeaking you could try two things, as its a common problem. Firstly, lube every moving part from the attaching nut upwards, and including on the blade itself, with tiny amounts of 3-in-1 or similar. Also, clean the blades with meths.

I'll stick with the OEM style ones then.

I will try using meth on the existing blades. Might just be some liquid wax product the dealership has poured on the car.

I assume it's the blades squeaking on the screen?
Give the screen a good clean with some proper cleanser to get rid of any waxes and traffic film.

I use neat windscreen wash on a cloth to wipe the blades

I just replaced my wiper blades with the Bosch ones (not the aero twin ones). Work well, no streaking, squeaking or lifting from screen. Only downside is they don't seem to "click" in perfectly and so can be pulled off if you pull on them hard enough when you should have to release them from the catch.

Could be an issue specific to my car though, they might fit the Z4 perfectly

I would have a good fiddle with them and make sure that you get them to click in properly. They are not cheap to buy and will probably come off at just the wrong time and probably mark the screen into the bargain!

I've just bought these to replace the squeaky Bosch ones I had

Seem to be good so far, a bit light at first touch but work well.

P.S. Anyone want the Bosch ones for gratis let me know!

Me too, cant report how good they perform yet as they have only just been ordered.
You all know how it works ,went online to buy gearbox plug ,seal and oil, which I have not found yet,(a link from someone would be great).
Ended up buying wipers  Will report back after fitting for reference for other potential buyers.

A good clean has sorted the issue. Wipers seem OK now.
I'm guessing it was caused by some pour-on wax the dealer used.

I had aero blades on my 3 series and they worked great and looked as if they belonged on the car.

I think with the Z I will stick with OEM style. Probably buy them from WiperBlades as their HQ is on my route to work so I don't have to wait for delivery and if I have any issues I can just stop by.

I find that using rain-x improves the action of the wipers noticeably, screen stays a lot clearer.
