Digital speedo?
Is there a way to program the car to have a digital speedo on the dash and if there is would the main dealer do it before you take delivery of the car, or is it an aftermarket job only?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Digital speedo?
Im fairly certain a dealer wouldn't touch this mod (if it's a new car delivery) and certainly a mainstream BMW franchised dealer wouldn't do this if purchasing second-hand. Aftermarket if you can find a module etc and someone to fit but why?

Re: Digital speedo?
I can see the point, I heavily rely on the digital one in my 911 - but then on the speedo the difference between 30 and 50 mph is about 2 mm ...

2mm.. really? Doesn't the 911 have the 180 degree speedo (rather than the more common 270 degree) with 5mph increments?pvr wrote:I can see the point, I heavily rely on the digital one in my 911 - but then on the speedo the difference between 30 and 50 mph is about 2 mm ...

Re: Digital speedo?
I went down this route with my mk2 scirocco (Digifiz speedo as seen in the Audi Quattro's etc). I never managed to get it programmed for mph in the EEPROM and then my next issue was wiring it all up.
If you can find someone who has done it before and will charge a reasonable amount then go for it. Otherwise I'd just leave as is.

Too slow for anything other than dual or motorway driving though. Simply can't react as quick as the car does when going up and down the box in a spirited way.
Do like digital readouts though. Have one on the XF and it's cool to set cruise control to exactly what you want (ie display speed plus xx to equate to true speed)

I haven't seen a Digifiz cluster in such a long time! Fell in love with the design from the moment I set eyes on one.

Re: Digital speedo?
Matter of speaking … there is little space between them and 30 is not even on there.Maniac wrote:2mm.. really? Re: Digital speedo?
That's worse than on an ///M where it goes 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 120 with the sames amount of space between each.
I would say that Porsche expect you to use the digital as primary looking at that.

Re: Digital speedo?
I can not even see the speedo as the steering wheel is in the way, you have to lean forward to actually be able to see it.srhutch wrote:That's worse than on an ///M where it goes 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 120 with the sames amount of space between each.

Re: Digital speedo?
It's pretty easy to code using NCSExpert.
I had it on my car for a while but never used it.
When the car goes into a dealership for any work they will re-flash all modules in the car and you will lose the digital speedo again.
It only takes 10min to recode everything but the digital readout was something I never bothered adding back. Other mods like disabling the headlight washers and boosting the DRL voltage always get re-applied.
If you aren't handy with BMW coding then I would advise just buying the BMWhat app for Android/iPhone and using that. Total cost around £70 for the software and adapter. Wesbsite: http://www.ivini-apps.com/
