Reducing roof closure noise

Post by Busterboo » Sat Nov 30, 2019 11:28 am

Recently, a member recommended putting oil in the holes on top of the windscreen frame to reduce roof closure noise. He was right. It makes a big difference.

Does anyone have a fixit to make the back window quieter?

Reducing roof closure noise

I put some lithium grease in the two latch points above the windscreen and like others have said that makes a big difference, the last owner was running around with that area absolutely bone dry and it used to make horrible clang when the roof closed.

I still get a clang when a) the roof is lowered and sits in the boot and b) when the roof is closed and the roof parts sits on the rear deck. The problem is I don't know if this is normal since it's been like that since I got the car. How noisy should those two parts of the roof opening / closing be? Is there anything I can do to make it smoother / quieter?

Reducing roof closure noise

Just resurrecting this thread in case anyone else can advise on how much lithium grease to spray or add? I don’t have a clue what I’m doing here - assume I know nothing & you’d be right

I get a pretty decent thud on closure & wonder if my problem might be that the latch points are bone dry as described by Silverstar

Anyone used this technique to reduce noise level on closure?

Or any alternatives?

Are you referring to the two latching points above the windscreen? In which case just put a small amount in each latch with your finger, if it is a spray just give it a couple of squirts. I done mine two years ago and still no noise from that area. The other areas when the roof hits the rear deck and when it folds into the boot, you can't do much about them since there is nothing to grease and from what I understand it is normal.
