Tonymeister wrote: Fri Jun 18, 2021 11:22 pm Well, tomorrow's the day - time to get cracking. Just downloading all the files and this Mega.nz website almost immediately stopped me downloading the e89 SPDaten file because I ran out of bandwidth. Does anybody have an alternative link, or is able to send it to me? Thanks!
To the best of my knowledge there isn't another download location.
But to save you a bit of time (and bandwidth) just download the E89 file at 4.63Gb as you won't need the rest of them.

Hope that helps

Thanks Dave, left it running overnight and it was done when I woke up. The only thing is that the fourth link on your pdf, relating to how to install the SPDaten files, is dead.

I've noticed that copying the links from the pdf removes the "tt" from the first part of the link address and inserts a "Ʃ" instead, no idea as to why.

This is the proper link... http://blog.obdii365.com/2018/12/11/upd ... tool-2-50/

How-To - e89 Cruise Control Retro-fit

Post by Tonymeister » Thu Jun 24, 2021 10:52 am

I'm finally getting around to fitting everything today and before I started I wanted to make sure I could communicate with the car via INPA.

I'm receiving an error message I can't seem to solve. The INPA software can see the cable, and see that the car ignition is on, but when I select E89 and 'Functional Jobs' I get an error message that says 'Language variants do not match. Malfunction possible!'

When I continue and read the UIF, the list comes up just fine with the appropriate dates but the VIN number read-out is screwed up on most of the entries, as below. Any ideas?

Ignore the language issue banner, they all do that.
As for your VIN entries, I have a few that do that, I put mine down to units being changed over the years, but I'm no expert on it.

OK great - thanks for the speedy reply Dave (and for your continued support of this thread!) The car is a one-owner with no record of work on any modules but from reading I understand that sometimes it comes this way from the factory so I'll press on and go with it. Thanks!

Well, installed, test driven, working perfectly with no error codes whatsoever. Given how much of a Luddite I am it speaks volumes for Dave’s brilliant guide. Thank you Dave!

Is it possible to install the stalks and do the coding at a later date?

I need to take the steering wheel off for another job, but for numerous reasons won’t be able to code for a while

Thanks!

You can, but I highly do not recommend you doing that. You'll loose DTC and potentially steering control as it will still require the steering angle sensor setting up. You'll have fault lights for flat tyre monitoring, steering, ABS etc, none of which You'll be able to clear without the coding and fault clearance.
It's nit to do with coding the cruise, it's because you've removed the original stalks and fitted a new one that's nit set up.

Ooof, yeah that sound a bit too much - looks like I’ll ride it out with no mic for a while longer until I can do both jobs. Thanks for the advice Dave!

This is the font / pdf renderer using a ligature (a symbol that combines both t’s into one), and another app not knowing what to do with that info. As to why that’s happening, or where it’s creeping in is anyone’s guess.

Thanks for this guide and your hard work Dave - just wanted to add another successful install, following these instructions.

I was slightly confused about making sure the stalks were the right model, probably because I'm not too savvy with BMW part selection. Despite ordering the right model number (61319123049), I was sent a superseded one (61316989580) and wasn't sure if that was ok - but it worked fine.

If I now code additional features, will this one stick or need to be added in again? I've heard a few need to be redone every time (5x blinkers, for example). Im not intending on doing anything too crazy - but closing mirrors and 5x indicators would be a nice addition.

Thanks!
