Correct, get the 2 microswitches coupling lock replaced. Nothing else, the pump is ok.

Thanks for the responses - just to be clear. The microswitches you mention are the "salmon red" relays that are on the side of the pump?

The ones in the link above, that can be got for just a few quid?
Seems like a no-brainer to try. The workshop had my car for a week and couldn't suss it out. But like I mentioned, their diagnostics said the pump was overheating which is what led me to this discussion.

No..
Itβs the two micro switches on each linkage on either side of the boot..

Ah, okay.
Thanks for the clarification. Just as well I checked
I'll have a look online for them and see if I can get to them to replace them.
Thanks again!

OMG:
Switch is switch and relay is relay.
And of course, get the 2 salmon relays replaced by new ones as well!

If you are in the UK, Sopers of Lincoln (BMW dealer who give a small discount for forum members) will supply them posted for about Β£33 for both. The part numbers are on the thread linked to above. A really easy job to do swap them too. The instructions are on the linked thread again.
Good luck

Yup, that wasn't me being dense... that was me being unsure as to whether or not the original response was a native English-speaker or not.
Not always easy to know if Google translate is 100% accurate, is it?
I know the difference between a switch and a relay, but I figured it was more polite to pose the question than say "are you sure you don't mean a relay?"
Now to find where those relays...err, I mean switches go.

Umpff!
No, I'm not a native English speaker. But - I hardly ever don't use any translation software.
So - what's wrong as non native English speaker, when I write "microswitch"?
