Ive ordered a new light unit so anyone is welcome to the old one if they want to try and discover a way to clean it!
(Indicator doesnt work.)
Anyone know what size grommet I need to buy to seal up one of the mounting holes (ive read only 2 of the 3 holes are used with the newer light unit).

Hi gents, I also have a leak (2014 car which should have had an update on vents) which I guess is the vents. However not much of a tech person, so even struggle to get to the water in the driverside boot with the control modules. Got the fabric trims out but cannot manoeuvre the plastic trim out that is on the driver side protecting the tail light, as if is hooked on the steel frame bit... very grateful if you could help
The roof doesnโt open (windows down but does not unlatch) so fear for the control unit that has gone...
Thanks

Hi mate, I think the plastic panel you describe will only come out when the boot lid is raised from the front, so you need the roof mech working. Probably need to get any codes read to start with

You are probably right on the plastic plate, bugger.
Did look at the grommet but for mine it is completely fixed.

HI Gents,
Is it normal for BMW to charge ยฃ160.00 for max 1 hour diagnostics?
To me this sounds like a lot!
thanks

Oh god yes, have you seen how nice their showrooms are? Where abouts are you, suggest you need to find an independent specialist who knows what they're doing.

So my replacement light has finally arrived and fitted it today. If you read the previous I fitted a new light seal to fix a water leak and on opening the boot today bit gutted to find the tool cubby has water in again.
I have only just realised that you have to pull the light seal inside the aperture and tight against the body work. I feel quite the plonker but having read loads of threads on this I just haven't picked up on the need to seat it so accurately..
I've now got the seal fitted perfectly so hoping for a dry boot. Given the amount of water coming in previously I reckon the old light was just pressed into the body and bolted on, as I did with the new seal. I also checked the driver side and it is is fine, and it should be as I've had no problems there.
Given the amount of wet boots leading to flooded roof motors I wonder if there are others whose light seals are not seated correctly? I have some pics if it will help anyone

I fitted some new rear lights and one seated the double seal lip correctly but the other side took some silicone spray and trim tool to persuade it to nest perfectly

Here on the two apertures, the left is seated correctly, the right side is just pushed in. The screwdriver shows the lip you should have over the metal.
Important not to tighten the nuts until its seated correctly.

Similar issue here. 6 weeks ago my roof stopped operating - I'd noticed water below the battery with the foam cradle completely soaked. Lots of condensation in the boot too. I dried it all out as best as I could.
I've now had the roof repaired and the technician said it's as dry as a bone in there. I'm not sure if it's due to a lack of rain, not washing the car or not driving in the rain (haven't driven it at all in the last 6 weeks).
Anyhow, I've ordered a set of boot vents and tail lamp seals. Hoping this will resolve my issue? Is there anything else I should be looking for?
Appreciate any input, no matter how big or small.

Ive now fitted the blanking grommet to the hole left by the new light unit, which uses one less male thread.
12mm is the size you need, very tight to fit but thats what you want. Found on the auction site for a couple of quid for two.

This is SUPER useful, thank you. I'm changing the boot vents and rear lamp seals today. I'll take a look at the top seal too. Many thanks!clarker63 wrote: โSat Apr 10, 2021 7:50 pmlook in here... top seal is the main issue I had..warmasice wrote: โThu Apr 08, 2021 11:13 am Similar issue here. 6 weeks ago my roof stopped operating - I'd noticed water below the battery with the foam cradle completely soaked.
