In the absence of any other proven reason I agree

Go on Ron, you know you want to
We were discussing things which could justify the price difference, a gearing change shouldn’t change the cost or the engine output.
Everything changes the cost of things. You already mentioned brakes.
Yes, but it won’t alter the engines output though.
In fact a bit of digging shows, assuming BMW's literature is correct:
The ease at which power can be liberated on the N20 engine is in part to its newer design 2011 vs 2006 ..60-80 BHP can be wrought from the N54 on the same basis, however its cooling reserves (water, oil, inter cooler) are more limited and become the constraining factors with people wanting easy lives/modest budgets..
I do,and although this is the most powerful car I’ve owned I find I can quite easily drop into old gits pottering mode at times and enjoy it!
I’m the same Ron, I rarely give my car the big stick but it’s nice to know it’s there if you need to call on it
So glad it’s not only me !
That's because that chart compares cars with different transmissions.
This is going off the topic that I have already been chastised for but I would assume then that the final drive ratio which can be seen as different between the 35is DCT and the 35i manual would be different again for a 35i auto.R.E92 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 9:54 amThat's because that chart compares cars with different transmissions.
The quoted figures there are for a 35i manual and a 35is DCT. The 35i DCT will have the same gear and final drive ratio.
Not sure on the reason for the discrepancy in the smaller engine models, possibly a similar story with the 18 and 20 models having the manual stats and the 28 having the slushbox stats.
There isn't a 35i slushbox. Only 35i DCT.Nictrix wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 10:25 amThis is going off the topic that I have already been chastised for but I would assume then that the final drive ratio which can be seen as different between the 35is DCT and the 35i manual would be different again for a 35i auto.R.E92 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 9:54 amThat's because that chart compares cars with different transmissions.
