Exterior passenger door handle light not working
Hi guys!
My e89 (2012) has the extended lights package, which gives exterior ligthing under both door handles. However, I've noticed that only the driver's door light is turned on when I unlock my vehicle and the passenger's remains off.
I'm a little worried of taking it to the dealership, as they tend to charge unrealistic amounts of money for simple jobs (at least I'm wanting to believe this should be something relatively simple to fix).
I've tried putting the lights switch in all positions (automatic, on, off, parking) and also tried the 3 seconds push to the interior lights button to turn off/turn on the exterior courtesy lights, but none solved the problem.
Anyone had this before? Ideas or suggestions are very welcome!
Thanks!

It's a 2012? Under warranty then? Your warranty covers lights at the moment these are LED and should last longer than that! After 5 years on my E88 they still worked.
For all you know it could just be a fault bulb or something worse i.e water ingress which has fried the contacts etc.

Warranty is only 3 years in the UK though, not sure where the OP is. Mainland Europe is still 2 years or even 1.

Re: Exterior passenger door handle light not working
Thanks guys!
Here in Chile the guarantee is 3 years or 30.000 km (whichever comes first). Mine has 38.000 km
I'm thinking of getting the part and attempt to change it myself (just to check if the light is the problem). Anyone has an idea of how I can dismount/mount the part? Help will be much appreciated, since I tried to look for a way to take it out but I couldn't figure it out
If after changing the light it still doesn't work then I'll go to the dealership (with some lube at hand... )

Re: Exterior passenger door handle light not working
Sorry to jump in, but does anyone know where this part plugs into? I have two that I bought years ago and never installed.
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Re: Exterior passenger door handle light not working
That's interesting. When I had my door cards off and fitted some led puddle lights I had a look at the door handles to see if I could fit leds in there.
The door handles already have a clear plastic light guide housing with some kind of clip arrangement.
Having looked at pictures elsewhere; http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2225706/
I can see that the led clips into that clear plastic housing.
Not sure what that round thing is on the cable. Could that be a interior door handle illuminator?
Looks like another little project coming up.
Looks like there's an ambient light optic as well. Is that std. on extended lighting and where on the door?
Is just below the arm rest as there seems a nice gap running the length of the arm rest above the side pocket doors.
EDit; the pics in the link above doesn't look right for the E89 as the door led should be two not one sm led.

Yep external handle, internal handle and light strip under interior arm rest illuminates the door pocket. There are other lights in the cabin, rear shelf, footwells, puddle lights etc

Thanks Maniac.
Funny quick look at costs both from online BMW dealers.
Light guide from Europe is 14 euro, same item UK £14.
With current exchange rate should be £10.
So will dealers be maintaining their mark up on new cars as the Euro drops?

Exterior passenger door handle light not working
Hi Alan
Did you ever get around to installing your door lights and if so, how easy was it please?
I have seen part 63319184953 on Ebay for about £35 and would love them on my E89 but just concerned if the installation may be beyond me!
Thanks
