Boot is jammed HELP!!!
Parked up last night. Closed the roof, opened the boot, left the luggage cover in the upright position and closed the boot again.
This afternoon I went to open the boot to put the luggage cover down so I could lower the roof. The boot lock makes the usual noise and pops up a tiny bit as normal. But that's as far as it goes. I can close it down again but the boot is jammed and won't open.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Can't get to the dealer until Monday. Nightmare!!!

Re: Boot is jammed HELP!!!
There are two electrically driven hooks in the boot lid that hook into metal loops on the car shell. Try to move (not too much force) the boot lid a little left or right while lifting it as a hook may not have retracted fully or the metal loops could be bent.

Re: Boot is jammed HELP!!!
Ok I will try tomorrow as the car isn't here right now however one side does seem to be free and the passenger side is holding down tight.
Car is still under warranty but how would things get bent? I'm very gentle with closing the boot letting the mech take care of the closing.
Dealer replaced rear lense last week. Would that have had any issue.
Thanks for the reply.

possibly a connector could have been disturbed but it could be just a coincidence a visit to the dealer required I'm afraidZ4andy wrote:Ok I will try tomorrow as the car isn't here right now however one side does seem to be free and the passenger side is holding down tight.

Re: Boot is jammed HELP!!!
Ok tried to wiggle left to right a little but don't want to force anything so therefore there is no movement at all.
Then again I applied no real pressure at all.
Boot is jammed solid.
I have no idea how the dealer will get in there. I suppose they can somehow overide the luggage cover and try and open the roof.
Hope it's an easy fix. The car has been great lately.

Well the dealer just called.
They can't open it
Dealer is now waiting for an update from BMW on how to proceed.
Starting to get worried

Try disconnecting the batt.... oh.
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Re: Boot is jammed HELP!!!
I assume the dealer can overide the fact the boot cover is up and access that way by opening roof?
Perhaps a good habit to keep the cover closed where possible.
Would be interesting if a bypass switch could be fitted which tells the system the roof cover is down.
I think the catches it latches into has some magnetic switch in one or both.

Re: Boot is jammed HELP!!!
Strangely, it appears our American friends have an emergency release referred to as a Bowden Cable.
I have been through the ISTA/D Fault process and... "No corrective measures are currently available for this fault" This probably explains why the $tealer has gone back to BMW for advice
I am not sure whether it is possible to force the lid to open backwards to allow access? The only other option may be to force the catch through the Ski Flap?

Re: Boot is jammed HELP!!!
On second thoughts, reach through the Ski Flap and pull down the Boot Flap. This will allow you to move the boot lid via the roof opening process and gain access to the catch?

Still no news on a fix. Gonna be a long weekend without the Zed.

Re: Boot is jammed HELP!!!
Having read this i checked my boot and noticed it catches when opening.
When i look at the catches i notice the right one is sticking out a few mm's.
Think i need to take the boot trim off and see if it can be adjusted to give better clearance when retracted, before it jams the boot.
