freezing window

Post by JGP56 » Thu Nov 29, 2012 1:03 pm

Any thoughts on what to do in frosty weather. Door seals tight to rubbers, when forced open mechanism doesn`t drop and reseal window when shut. Obviously putting the car into a garage overnight would stop this happening, I do not have this luxury. Would a cover (half car/full car) over the windows stop this? I noted somewhere that smearing the rubbers at this time of year with vaseline or similar would help? Does anyone out there have this problem and able to get round it, or do I just need to wait for the thaw.

Common issue, threads on here about it.

Vaseline will make a right old mess. Use 'Gummi Pflege', I do (you can get it online or from BMW) on the seals. I did that last weekend and the doors opened this morning no trouble at all.

Just happened to me too. Thought I'd go start the car, give it a bit of warm up and the windows wouldn't drop.

Just a note to others that Vaseline is petroleum based and will destroy seals over time. Stick to the proper stuff
