I got stopped by the police today

Post by Stark » Mon Nov 05, 2012 8:52 pm

Just on the Kew Rd, going back to Richmond, I noticed a cop car had pulled a 5 Series BMW, just as I passed by, he pulled me in too...I said 'what is this, pick on BMW night?'

He said well actually, yes it is.

Last night there were 2 x 1 series BMW's and a 6 Series stolen from Richmond/Kew area and he was making me aware of the issue with the keys and being copied etc...

Didn't stop him checking my details either!!

I wouldn't be so sure. Surely there's more efficient ways to notify the public of such issues than pulling over individuals minding their own business. Just a flimsy excuse to check people's papers. I'm sure his nose was on high alert as well for alcohol or similar fumes. As Bing said, cheeky buggers.

They were cheeky buggers, you are right... But I was referring to stark's cheek that may have prompted cheek in return. In my experience cockiness isn't the best way to greet an officer of the law :D

Agreed. I was out with a friend and was pulled over (he was driving) and his greeting of "evening constable" with extreme emphasis on the first syllable of the officers rank resulted in a thorough car check, breathalyser etc etc

Well sometimes I do ask very direct questions as to the reasons for pulling me over, as I have been randomly stopped, when police are on the roadside pulling drivers in. But apparently when stopped, even as I was, they have to complete a form to say you've been stopped etc....I was surprised when he radioed my details in.....

Why would he not? If he's pulling bmw's over because a few have been nicked in the local area, and you are driving a bmw, he is just checking you are who you say you are and that you own the car

If you've got nothing to hide and not doing anything wrong you have no worries

I would rather marked police cars policing the streets pulling people over and catching drunk/un-insured/non mot'd/non taxed drivers and possibly people in stolen cars, than gatso's and police officers with speed guns catching people for doing a few miles an hour over a signed speed limit

I keep telling myself I should learn to read properly one of these days.
My sentiment stands even if I misunderstood the source quote. Regardless, I'm always the most polite gentleman no matter how offended I am at being pulled over for some flimsy excuse.

I'm in Richmond too and I don't know anything about 'issues with keys / being copied (?)'. Which road do I need to drive down to get pulled by the police in order to find out the details ?
