Replacement windscreen
I've had my car for 2 years now, and I have one minor stone chip/crack in my windscreen, about 3mm.....as opposed to getting it repaired, I'd prefer to have it replaced, as it's got a fair rash across it from the miles I've done, and I'm looking forward to a new one.
I've heard some horror stories, and was wondering if anyone had, had their E89 screen replaced and who they got to do the work? Going to go via insurance.....
Thanks

Re: Replacement windscreen
Surely insurance won't replace it with just a 3mm hole/crack.

Re: Replacement windscreen
I crack the size of a £2 coin on mine, rang insurance up, and they are replacing it today.... No one inspected it before hand £75 excess pre paid over the phone with a credit card.
So i'd say the insurance will be fine replacing it.... Say it effect driving visibility in sunlight

Re: Replacement windscreen
Personally I would push the insurers to get BMW to do the screen replacement or whoever the windcsreen company is to use a genuine screen. I know on some BMWs it can be a biatch to get the rain sensor working correctly and may need recalibrating by BMW. You may be lucky though if you get a good fitter

Re: Replacement windscreen
+1 However, when I had a crack and the windscreen co went through the criteria on the phone, and confirmed it was prob just a repair, the windscreen guy turned up ready and with a replacement E85 windscreen. I asked for the repair only, with concerns about a good fitting windscreen and that it wasn't BMW authentic. Maybe I was being paranoid.srhutch wrote:Surely insurance won't replace it with just a 3mm hole/crack.

Windshield looks exactly the same as before (but minus the crack), has the black light sensor sticky pad pre stuck on it when they turn up. They probably just get the screen direct from the manufacturer.
Fitting took a while, remove wipers/ trim etc took maybe 1.5 hours.

Repair tooks ages too. At least an hour. Then you can't drive it for an hour or so after as the stuff sets.aquazi wrote:Oakandacorns wrote:Crafty so and so. Stupid stone chips - windscreens always get marked, on any car. It's like a shooting range target!!

Re: Replacement windscreen
I did think the stripe would look retro, as it does on older saloon or estate type cars.
However, thinking about what Aqua boy is saying above, I agree with him. And as the position of the Zed is lower, need as much visiblity as poss.

Re: Replacement windscreen
They look very good, visibility isn't compromised as obviously it's only a gradient strip
Best to get windscreen cover though as your probably looking best part of £500
